just because it is burnt looking does not mean it's bad. i remember reading a blackstone report on a ATF sample from our cars and they said there was nothing wrong with it. Nissan even issued this:

Thanks for all that information, the reason why I'm asking is because in sports mode when the 7AT comes to a stop it isn't as smooth as it use to be and the hotter the car the more rough it downshifts by itself. Makes since because I do drive the car hard and get on it a few times a day.

Wstar's point is well taken -- a few track days can SERIOUSLY wear down tires, brakes, and greatly heat up fluids -- but even spirited daily driving shouldn't get you anywhere near the kinds of stress you put on the car on a closed track (unless you are fleeing the police or something now and then ). That's not to say an early change would hurt, but its improbable that its needed unless you track your car, and if you do that, a beefier ATF cooler wouldn't be a bad idea.

you'll need to take it to a dealer after the install to check your fluid level but you can DIY. looks like they also have this kit now too GTM Motorsports*::*AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION*::*GTM 25 ROW COMPETITION TRANS COOLER FOR VQ

I've notice when your being rough and driving like a jacka. The car gets really hot and sometimes seems likes it's guessing gears, especially when it auto down shifts from 3-1 it's really roughy and sounds werid. Could this problem cause any long term affects on the trans because my power train warranty is about gone this upcoming year. Forsure looking I to an exanded one.

I'm not looking to do any big upgrades to my car but I will be getting a CBE and cold air intakes. I've also been Instrested in the oil and trans cooler would it be doing me much for consist daily street driving. Or would it just be a waste since it won't be on a track

I know it says "maintenance free" and the transmission has no drain plug, but I requested the dealer change my fluid at 40k. There was a significant difference in smoothness and transmission shifting speed afterwards.
I never buy into that lifetime fluid stuff. That is a concept to try and sell cars. The fluid does get worn and changing it more often won't hurt. |

I bet , give me every more reason to do so. Sometimes I wish I was just dealing with a manual because if something goes wrong at least it'll be as easy/cheaper getting a clutch then going threw an auto trans. But I still love my 7AT Z

Yeah if you're not driving too hard who knows, but again it's not that expensive to swap it ever X0,000 miles (20, 30, 40? whatever, just not 100). By the way, the trans *does* have drain and fill plugs (both on the bottom of the pan itself, the fill plug has a tube sticking up from it on the inside to set the level), and it is possible to do DIY fluid swaps on this car (I've done it), but it takes a little guesswork with an IR thermometer to set the level at the correct temp, and you have to put together some custom tubing for the fill port.

I would attempt to do it myself but for $200 I'd rather not go threw the trouble and let the dealer do it. But what worries me is them doing a good job on setting the right level and what not. I don't want my car to be a test dummy to a new guy you know. But there's nothing I can do but cross my fingers lol
