At least with K&N it is not necessary to use a chain wrench to remove the thing and get covered in oil when the casing splits !

I use the K&N HP 1010. Just walk into you friendly neighborhood parts store and ask for a filter for a 2009 Nissan GTR. The filter is about an inch longer than the stock 370Z filter.
I find it so funny that some people argue that paying $14 for an oil filter is stupid. I paid nearly $40,000 for my 2009 370Z, brand new. To me, the argument between using a $6 cheapie Fram filter and a $14 K&N is a moot point. I save money on filters and oil on my wife's Trailblazer so i can put only the best in my Z. |

Advanced Auto Parts is running an oil change special, 5 quarts of Castrol Edge and a K&N filter of your choice for $29.99. Normally that would cost $55.
From the UAO reports it seems a decent oil.

I am still worried about aftermarket oil filter since they could change the oil pressure and flow characteristics. Also consider this, Nissan uses different filters for the same VQ motor, yet aftermarket has a one size fits all. THere must be a reason why Nissan did it. Is it so much filtering capability or is it more pressure drop? Usually a bigger filter will drop your pressure slightly. Does Nissan have a special oil filter similar to TRD? I know I can buy a TRD filter for my Toyota that is thicker and have a metal casing instead of paper. Does Nissan sell a briefer version of the filter that is meant for the Z, not other cars? With all that said, I am running a K&N because it was on special with the Valvoline two months back ![]() |

From what I read in the very small print, was that you have to pay extra if the filter that you need costs over $6.95. I think a K&N filter for my 370Z was $11 or $12, so I would have had to pay the difference. I ended up going with Mobil1 oil & a different filter. |
