Default Engine oil question

My friend just bought some engine oils at the walmart store with decent price but he wanted to sell one of them to me since he bought too many oils for himself.

Do i need to stick to 5w30 as manual recommended? IMO, our vq3.7 engine needs higher viscosity engine oil than 5w30, in order to maintain high temp oil... Am i right?

1.castrol 5w50 4.4L (he want $30)

2.redline 5w30 4.4L (he want $40)

3.Amsoil 10w30 4.7L (he want $45)

btw, it's canadian dollar.

choose one for me plz...

Use what you want. Use dino if you want, use synthetic, use nissan, use racing oil...

Main point to it is to change it when you're supposed to (as either indicated by the manual or by oil analysis)

If Nissan was specific to the oil you put in, they would spec it in the manual - not just "recommend" their own oil.

I'd pick Redline. Is it Redline Synthetic? BTW, owner's manual says you need 4.9 Litres to do an oil change. Where are you getting the extra .5 litres from?

I use canola, it's the least fattening of all oils...J/K

It's 5-30W and I used Castrol Synthetic.

I use Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic 5-30 and find it runs cooler and quiets the valve train.
You can purchase it @ Wal-Mart for $20 and with a $15 mail in coupon, it’s only $1 a quart.
I change my oil every 3K to 4K depending on my driving. You can stockpile by giving different names & addresses for the rebate (use cash).

+1 for Amsoil.

And, unless you want the possibility of issues with a voided warranty, I'd use the oil weight that Nissan recommends - 5W30.

I will always stick with the factory recommended weight.

leepeen, i think if ur gonna buy 10w-30, u might as well buy 5w-30 as the running viscosity is still 30 and u get a lower viscosity when cold.

How would you get it if you used different addresses?

Use a 5w30 for normal and even moderately spirited driving. The thicker oil weight is probably only good for all-day track racing and would be too thick for the close clearance engine. Either of the brands would be ok but Redline has the highest group rating and contains Ester as recommended by the owners manual if that's something you're interested in.
