6th to 5th downshift grind
Hello all,
I have recently noticed that "occasionally" when shifting from 6th to 5th gear, i get a nice little crunch sound. :shakes head: Not a gears mashing noise, but just a LOT more feedback than i "should" be feeling. - Happens warm or cold - Happens witih SRM on or off I did a search and found a sh*t ton of transmission issues posted on here. This is sort of here to track MY transmission warranty issues... ...here we go!! |
mine does it too, I havent figured out if its just me shifting faster then the car is keeping up ( i leave rev match on) or if maybe im not engaging the clutch all the way.
it only happens when driving really slow in 6th might add that this only happens when car is not up to temp yet |
i think clutch-in completely and slower into 5th should fix it.
only time i grinded a gear was while the car was brand new, less than 200miles and i was shifting into 4th from 3rd and GRIND! that was the only time. no issues with grinding up or downshifts. i remember reading a post early on back in 2009 where a member had 5th gear grind. he got a new syncro and fixed the problem. |

this no good, buy winter beater ;) |
Mine does this too. Only on a quick downshift into 5th. If I take it easy. No problem.

That's how my csc failure started the. Downshift to 3rd grinding and up shifts
|
Yikes. I have never had this happen and my CSC is still OK.......... I see my future ahead.

Mine does this too when cold. Seems to happen on just about every MT Z.
If I shift slow from 6 to 5, no grind. But if I go fast, it grinds. It's intermittent and only until the trans fully warms up. Mine hasn't gotten worse, but I've read that others have and Nissan swapped out the trans. |

Bumping this thread as i am starting to have this issue myself, except downshifting to 4th, 3rd or just going into neutral from 3rd. Clutch is completely engaged and i still get the grind. I did transf fluid swap about 15k miles ago with redline and hadnt had issues until today. Does anyone know if replacing trans fluid gets rid of this? Ive read that some people had synchros gone bad and others had transmissions replaced :eekdance:

When this happened to me, it was the 4th & 5th gear syncrho. Luckily, I was still under warranty so, they installed a brand new trans. Good luck. |

I have extended warranty but not looking forward to the downtime if in fact its the synchros |

Have them order the trans and bring it in when it arrives. I had mine back in a couple days. |
5th was crap for me - started off a slight grind if I didn't go in careful, became a nasty grind if I wasn't careful, and slight grind with all shifts. Around 100k miles I ended up getting a good deal on a new trans and swapped it out. These days I don't skip gears, and I'm super easy on my trans other than the track. Trying to make this one last. Haha
