Sanwich Plate Help

2 Attachment(s)
So I sold my oil cooler to a gentleman on the forums, and everything checked out G2G except one thing. I don't know enough about sandwich plates to give an expert opinion, so I thought I'd toss it here. The metal around the ball bearing looks a bit damaged. To me it looks very minor, but I'm not sure what it's purpose is. I don't see any other sandwich plate that has that lip around the ball bearing. I linked a few attachments below to help, but it's hard for me to see without it being in my hands. Also linked the rest of the system just to show it's in very good condition. The attached images below, the first is a pic before it was cleaned, the second is what the buyer sent me to look at.

Thanks for the input, are you able to elaborate a bit on what's missing or what it's supposed to look like?

I saw pics of the same sandwich plate here, but I can't see any details.

The link pics looks like a plates missing. But what's the other side look like? In this pic you can see the bearing and a smooth hole, yours isnt smooth and the metals cracked and missing.

Yes you're only seeing one side. One side has a plate, the other is the bearing. I'm sure your plates there but the bearing and sandwich are f'ed. That's a poor design. Who makes it? I'd throw up a red flag for all owners as that could kill a motor! Looks like ill be buying the Mitsmoto one if that's the one off racers warehouse site.

Well if he decides not to keep it, I'm just gonna upgrade to a thermostatic unit and -10AN lines & fittings, and sell it for a premium. At this point, the headache far outweighs any money made. Only people in fire hot climates and track rats are interested anyways.

SS_Firehawk 08-10-2013 01:17 AM

Also unsure who manufactures the sandwich plate. Only thing I know is that it's billet aluminum and supposed to "last"

synolimit 08-10-2013 01:37 AM

It isn't hot here but I do plan to run 2 24 row coolers. 36 row still over heats on the track and I just can't swing $700 for a 72 row. Fingers crossed, 48 is enough. I know tru cool makes a 48, but because its so tall I think 50% is blocked by the bumper. 2 24's should see all air like yours does. GL with the whole thing there.

Anyone that couldn't figure it out probably wouldn't be much help. ;)

So the first pic is how it was when it was shipped to him, and the last ones were what he says he got? Is it the same sandwich plate?

SS_Firehawk 08-10-2013 10:20 AM

The first attached picture was the sandwich plate before GTM cleaned it up. It was just another angle, so I used it. The second is the one he sent me. All the linked images are what GTM sent me after they cleaned it up for me.

Chuck33079 08-10-2013 11:20 AM

Ok. That makes more sense.

Looks like he's gonna upgrade to a Mocal or Mishimoto thermostatic sandwich plate and keep it (smart). I really wish I knew WTF is going on with it though.

Looks like it wore out. That bearing obviously has a spring for pressure, why idk, but it moves and over time steel 1, aluminium 0.
