Building up the engine

Say I want to achieve over 700whp, what would need to be done to the engine? Forged pistons and rods? What else?

Want 700HP NA? Lol (assuming not)

But you'll need a big āss turbo set up too

Most important is a trusted/reliable engine builder.

Finished build thread would be the place to go for references.

700whp? Why so much? I think only 1 person is near that number other than the UAM built car.

Most have achieved 500whp on stock block. Safety/reliability is all on the tune and if daily driven or type of use.

This is by far not a complete list, but a solid start: Engine Build Components
First step is to budget & determine what you want. Find your shops & tuners who have the experience and are willing to do the work properly. I would also suggest contracts on a larger build, not really for timeline (delays happen) but for legal reasons if they fail to deliver what they agree to. Hate seeing someone drop 10k+ on an engine and it blows and come to find out the shop scammed them or used lower quality parts.

Im at the point where i need to sell the car and buy something else, or keep it forever and build it up. Seriously eyeing 2009 GTR's, but my car is not worth **** anymore. I easily put 40 into it all together, and can sell it for maybe 25 if im lucky. Plus i owe like 10 still... Im in a rough spot. Its my DD, so the miles keep racking up. The paint is a mess, and just a ton of other little **** that bugs me about it. Im going through mid life crisis right now, and im 25... Nothing seems like enough. I seriously need to look at getting a DD so at least i can stop wearing this one out. I love the car, but i just want more power, more speed. If i throw a TT kit on it, thats great and all, but then i would need suspension mods, new brake setup, no to mention my paint job is totally used up. Thats about 4k right there to get it done right. Maybe around 2-3 if i get it wrapped. so add it all up and i have a car that i love, that is slower than a 2009 gtr, and quite a bit more expensive (at the used price) GRRRRRRRRRRR

Okay im done venting. Just in a **** mood today. I really do love my car

Go look what the maintenance on a GTR will cost you. You'll run out to the garage and give your Z a big hug. If I were you, I'd boost it on the stock block with a safe, conservative tune around 500whp. You can always build a motor later.

Wait, you put 40 INTO your car? Or you've got $40 in it?

It's got to be $40k inclusive of the car purchase.

more than 40 inclusive of the car purchase. You're right, and the insurance on gtr would be killer.

10 quarts of tranny fluid at $80/qt. $3000 brake jobs. Etc. I'll pass on GTR ownership.

agreed here. This is a lot of HP to put down on a track; unless you're a very experience track junky. Especially for a DD.

Mid-life...at 25? I could see it at 35 or 40; but everyone is different. I'd learn to control your Wants over your Needs. Use the $ to get a cheap daily driver, and pay down your Z. Learn to enjoy the car for what it is. If you bought it for straight line drag racing, you bought the wrong car. Its respectable, but this car was meant for carving up the curves. Just my opinion, but it sounds like you're upside down on the value of the Z. In the future, consider looking at the Total Cost of Ownership over, say 5 years. That will give you a good idea of how much the car will cost to maintain and what it will be worth in a few years. Just speaking from experience after having been in your shoes years ago. After having a daily driver though, I ditched it because I ended up just driving my hot rod once in a while and never really learned to enjoy it's full potential.
Now, if I had a GTR or something crazy like that, I'd keep a DD. However, this is why I bought the Z over the Porsche. I'm gonna enjoy it and not feel guilty about it. The difference between a $35k car and a $100k car. Again, just my input.

Also here is a little lesson my father taught me a few years ago. "If you got to worry about the costs to maintain it, you can't afford it." - This coming from a man bought his wife a DB9 for her retirement and himself a RR Phantom to drive back and forth to work in. (and no, money doesn't roll down hill in my family)

..and in case you think I'm full of ***T here I am in my dads garage with his RR Phantom...
[IMG][/IMG]

Its good advice and I've learned to live by it...keeps me from getting into that same old situation of letting my WANTS get me into trouble.
Streetlife, GaleForce and logenl7 like this.
