2013 Nissan 370z cooling solution
 
Hello,

I am from Chicago, IL and I have a 2013 Nissan 370z touring 6spd with 3,000 miles. I have read a lot of threads about oil coolers for this car.

This car is my daily driver and I won't be tracking it. I have noticed on really hot and humid days the car really lacks power. I went to remedy this problem and be able to step on the peddle and the car will go!

As I live in Chicago, the temperature fluctuates a lot. I'm looking for a proper cooling solution for the engine. I am currently looking at getting a Z1 34 Row Oil cooler. I'm not sure if I should get the oil sandwich plate adapter Thermostatic or not. Is there anything else I would need as far cooling goes for this car?

Any recommendations or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Well before dumping money into something that might work, probably should find where & when the car starts to bog down.
It might be oil temps, water temps, intake air temps, lack of airflow. If you have a scanner or ability to monitor temps more accurately you can probably find when & where it is causing the issue.

Oil temps are not going to be an issue until it starts getting into the 250 range when it starts pulling timing to protect the engine and then goes into 1st version of limp mode. I would take a bet it might be your air intake temps jumping up bogging it down.

If you get the oil cooler, get the thermostatic sandwich plate. Especially since you see colder temperatures ofter up there. Depending on your future mod plans, a radiator and/or a tune with the fans turned on earlier will help, but both of these are overkill for a stock vehicle. Going to a 75/25 water/antifreeze mix will let the car run cooler, but I wouldn't do it in a climate that sees frequent freezing temperatures.

To answer your question thedreamer, the car starts to "lose power" when oil temps go above 180 degrees. It's like the car has two maps, one for low temp and one for high temp. Also when it is very hot and humid the car loses power. The power loss seems to happen throughout the rpm range.

That is odd it looses power above 180, because at 180 is proper operating temps for this engine.

At 180-240 degrees oil temp, it's an heat soak and IAT issue that an oil cooler's not going to help with. When it's hot and humid, it's going to lose power. The air you're taking in is hot, moist and less dense. Not a whole lot that can be done there.

and if you do get an oil cooler, 34 row is way overkill for a street car. 25 row would be sufficient.

The 2012 and up come with an oil cooler stock. Here in the hot and humid Alabama my temps are usually around 220 driving in traffic. For daily driving I think you will be fine stock. If you track you will likely need an upgrade.

No car does. This gets it a little worse than others, but hot humid air has less O2 in it to mix with fuel and ignite. It's a physics issue, not a Nissan issue. It's worse on boosted cars since the IATs are much higher and the intercooler is less effective with higher ambient temperatures.

Ok guys i dont know if anybody has yet to explain this i didnt get the chance to read all the posts yet, am at work but i do own osirus tuner and ill tell you what i found. Apparently the ecu has two maps one is for cold temp and one is for high temp they change at around 180F . The cold temp map is the best you feel all the power from 1k-7.5k rpm where the high temp map there is a power drop point between 2k-3k rpm this is where the sluggish feeling comes in also if the temp go above 240F ur rpms are being limited to ~5k rpm at 260F its ~3.5k but i never hit those temp i have a 48row oil cooler. So there u go fellas.

The cold/hot maps are for warming up your engine to 180 degrees as quickly as possible.

Buy a cold air intake or do the modshack air vent DIY options.

You can do a lot to keep your temps down, which helps with heat soak. Bigger radiator, Uprev turning your fans on sooner, Cold Air Intake, Oil Cooler all help some however if you are sitting in traffic the engine will still get heat soaked some, just not as much.
