Replacing the oil temp gauge and sensor with aftermarket one
 

I will be replacing the stock gauge with an aftermarket one.
Does anyone know if I can just pull the stick oil temp sensor out and replace it with the after market one, or will the car go into limp mode because the ECU will not be seeing oil temps?

The triple gauges are a single unit so it will be all three or nothing.

Someone has already done this with some success. The photos looked great and he said that it did not create any computer issues.

I am not sure where the thread is (you will need to do a search) but it went into considerable detail on all aspects of the conversion. Find that thread and you should have most of the answers that you are looking for.

I realized that they were all linked when I tried to replace the clock with an oil press gauge :P (see my build thread).

So I ordered an after market oil temp and volt gauges.

I doubt you can remove the OEM sensor and have everything just fine. The stock ECU uses that for (at least) monitoring oil overheat limp-mode at 280 and 300 F.

Best way is to leave the stock sensor in place and tap the oil pan for the new gauge. I am doing this now on my build.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Im already tapped into the press sensor with a tee, really wanna stay away from another tee off on the temp sensor. Taping the pan sounds like pita.

Just put a Greddy turbo oil pan on ,it has the hole already threaded for the gauge.
That's what I did and replaced all 3 dash gauges with Defi.:tup:

Or you can get an oil pan spacer and drill/thread a hole in it.

I'm assuming this would go on the cooler inlet. If not, do you have to compensate for the lower temperature reading on the outlet or just use it as-is?

You can put it anywhere you want ,but it depends on it's specific job depends on where it goes

I was wondering about when used for an oil temp gauge on the dash.

I put mine in the oil pan for the temp gauge in the dash,the other is in the hot side line right before the oil cooler for the fan.
