Coolant Over flow tank

I was wiping my overflow tank today and I was hardly rubbing hard and my finger crashed through the plastic wall of the tank almost burning the crap out of my fingers in the coolant. I pulled the tank out and the plastic is just falling apart. Its brittle like a saltine cracker. Really weird!
I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and if there is an aftermarket overflow tank available????

Simota was building one. I think ARC has/had one. That's all I know of for aftermarket.

Brittle plastic is something I would expect from a 10+ year old vehicle, not one that is just a few years old. I just checked mine and it is still in like-new condition. I'd be wanting to know why the plastic became so brittle so fast.

The three main things I can think of that could cause the brittleness are: UV, chemicals, and heat. Unless you leave the hood up a lot, UV shouldn't be a problem. Heat shouldn't be a problem or other ppl would be reporting the same symptom. I'd check my antifreeze for contamination.

Odd. I'd like to get another one anyways. A little smaller.

I have no idea how that can happen. Take it to Nissan and get it replaced. Looks like it was hit with a hammer.

Weird.

If contamination is the problem, it's probably not the antifreeze or the whole bottom would have fallen out. MAF cleaner? Degreaser?

Weird.

Yeah if you look at the mounting bolt you can see deterioration of some sort that looks like really brittle plastic that's for lack of a better word, rotten.

It's got to be just a flaw in this batch or this particular tank. I don't use any chemicals. Yea it's some crazy stuff!

Should still be covered under warranty. Seems like yours was just a bad tank.

LafitteZ 05-20-2013 04:43 PM

Not my z. If I bring my car and ask for warranty theyll laugh at me lolol. To much modding.hehehehe
