Need help. Transmission issue? Code U0101
Gentlemen,
I'm having a very weird issue with my Z. The transmission seems to have a problem. As you can see in the pics, I have a Service Engine light, a Golden Key to the left, and the Transmission gear numbers are out. When I drove the vehicle around my street, the Tiptronic does not work and the car doesnt shift well, its feels dangerous driving. I used a Scanner and got a U0101 code. God I hope my tranny didnt go bad |

TCM is out, it's the brain of the transmission, no HUGE deal, but I'd not drive it

Wow, thanks for the fast reply
Im happy as long as the transmission doesnt need to be replaced. Is this something expensive to replace? Can any mechanic replace this or is this a Nissan only type of thing? |

Damn. That was quick. Nevermind. lol
TCM isn't exactly easy to replace, at least not to my knowledge. My last car the transmission had to be dropped to do it. The TCM was nearly $900 to replace. And personally, I would have Nissan do it. Just my opinion. |

Its an Automatic Transmission with 35,000 miles.
Im pretty gentle with her, lol. Car doesn't shift until I hit a high RPM. It jerks pretty badly I do have a Stillen Exhaust and a Stillen Intake if that makes a difference |

U0101 - Lost Communication With Transmission Control Module
Possible causes - Faulty Transmission Control Module (TCM) - TCM harness is open or shorted - TCM circuit poor electrical connection Help with this Symptoms - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light) U0101 Description Modules connected to the high speed General Motor Local Area Network (GMLAN) serial data circuits monitor for serial data communications during normal vehicle operation. Operating information and commands are exchanged among the modules. The modules have prerecorded information about what messages are needed to be exchanged on the serial data circuits, for each virtual network. The messages are supervised and also, some periodic messages are used by the receiver module as an availability indication of the transmitter module. The supervision time-out period is 250 ms. Each message contains the identification number of the transmitter module.

It should be under warranty, if not, call me, and $900 is CHEAP... On my Maxima it was like $1800 or something and the TCM was in the passenger footwell

Honestly, you can ask if they document mods, and if they care. But TCM doesn't and can't have a damn thing to do with intake or exhaust or more HP or ANYTHING even close where they could TRY to make a case

Either tow it to make it more dramatic, or if you have an extended warranty (I assume the 3/36 is done) call Nissan to tow it for free
