trying to add power

hey guys i have bolt ons for my Z...CAI, HEADERS, EXHAUST. im looking for other options and opinions on adding power without doing FI (forced induction) or is that my only/best other option?

HFC's or TP's.. M370 manifold.. tune.. engine build.. 4.10 gears :)

Grindkiezer 05-07-2013 08:16 PM

Test pipes or HFC?

Edit: Ha dang you beat me by a second

OP, are your headers shorties or long tubes? If they're shorties then replace them with long tubes unless they're the momentum headers. Other than that, the M370 manifold and a tune are about the only other bolt-ons left as far as power mods go. The rearend gear and a lightweight flywheel will liven up the car even though they don't technically don't add power.

Tuning wise, I'd probably wait until ECUtek gets the VVEL part all ironed out and then get it tuned using that software.

You could get a hold of visconti on the forum here. He's pushing the ECUtek tuning software and was talking about an E85 setup that he wants to develop for the Z34 platform. He seemed pretty confident that the ethanol option was the next step for adding easy power to the motor.

Pullies, bored throttle bodies, weight reduction.

long tube headers, no cats. i am def thinking about getting a tune not sure which or where unless someone knows a good shop in the NJ area. and the m370 manifold i dont know much about ill do some research and look into it. do you have any info or specs on it? thanks

gomer_110 05-07-2013 09:11 PM

The M370 is really just a 350Z manifold with new bolt holes for proper mounting. The general consensus is that you must get a tune to realize any gains from the manifold. Also the gains are going to be midrange not peak.

thanks for the info brother greatly appreciated

RT Tuning. If you want to take a drive. Vince tuned mine.

ive been looking into the m370 manifold by motordyne and have seen lots of mixed reviews is it worth the money for those who have it??

It really depends on what your goals are. If you only care about peak HP then it's probably not worth it since these typically don't net you much up top.

Now if you live in reality and care about the midrange power then my opinion is buy the M370.

jlask370 05-08-2013 09:19 PM

gomer 110 appreciate all the input brother thanks. yeah i looked into it and the peak loss compared to the gain in midrange seems to be minor however digging around on the forum i see some people saying the had almost no gains in any hp with it..and others saying they did notice a difference right away

I make a manifold conversion too and I dyno'd it, installed the new manifold, then re-dyno'd it, same day, didn't even move the car, AND my car had TP's, intakes, a CBE, and no tune

I lost 2-4WHP peak (above 7200RPM), but gained 12-15HP AND TQ across MOST the powerband. The loss of peak HP is NOTHING compared to the area you gain under the curve.
Ask ChrisChhorn, he's got my manifold
