Right hand turn fuel starvation fix: Stillen or CJ Motorsports

Does the Stillen fuel pump that comes with their supercharger kit fix the problem that the CJ Motorsports fuel pump addresses? I am interested in a car that already has the SC kit installed.

cdoxp800 05-07-2013 07:26 AM

NO..

The only in Tank solution is CJ Motorsport product.

Cyberium 05-07-2013 07:29 AM

The fix is... keep the fuel tank above half full if you are going to drive "spirited".

Problem solved.

CJ Motorsports!

Do the '13 have the same issue?

Yes. The fuel starve problem is a result of the fuel tank design. As far as I know the tank design has not changed at all therefore fuel starve is still a problem.

Before I bought my '12, I had test driven an '09 and experienced fuel starvation when I took an on-ramp to the freeway. If I recall correctly, there were about 2 LEDs showing on the fuel gauge on that car.

I have not experienced this with my '12 and have taken the fuel level lower than 2 LEDs. I don't know if there has been a change to the fuel tank in response to that issue, but in the year+ I've had my car, it hasn't demonstrated the fuel starvation issue (yet).

Dave

Maybe Nissan has changed the pump?

takjak2 05-07-2013 12:48 PM

Inside of the '12 is the same. There is no change from Nissan

no, they removed the fuel tank as they did the steering lock.

Dave

Let me drive it and I'll starve it in no time flat. I starved mine in only 5 laps from full at the Circuit of the Amercias.

Mike 05-07-2013 08:47 PM

and I starved mine at 1 dot from full at Road America in the carousel!

Can't say I'll ever go that low, I would be having a breakdown of some sort I would think. :) (And no, not talking fuel starvation or mechanical!)

Lothario 09-05-2013 01:30 PM

i just took my '13 on a very spirited ride with two LEDs lit... no problem at all. tight turns, sweepers, hairpins, etc... notta

phunk 09-05-2013 03:27 PM

^ once you get more comfortable with the car, you will see what they are talking about.

People who have done suspension and tire upgrades are much more prone to experiencing it.. since that will not only increase overall grip, but increase stability and confidence inspiring more aggressive driving.

Whether you experience fuel starvation when trying to come into throttle out of a right hand turn, or not, isn't a factor of what year 370z you have, it is only a factor of how hard you turned and how much gas is in your tank. If your car doesnt starve with two LEDs lit.. I have *great* knews for you... your 370z can turn WAY faster than you know!

roplusbee 09-05-2013 03:41 PM

Nothing's changed...

I'm not able to do it because I have a 300 tire, I just slide or fishtail instead of achieving high G's.

phunk's right. If you have 2 dots showing and can't starve it. No if's and's or but's. You're slow.

phunk 09-05-2013 07:34 PM

i dont know... is it if's and's or but's, or if's and/or but's? cause i always thought it was the second one.

roplusbee 09-06-2013 11:46 AM

I'm not sure that I would agree with them being slow. They can still accelerate out of the corner, which could be an advantage.

:confused:eh! No one has proven teh Nissan r3vised fuel pump, 17040-1EK0B , has this flaw?! This pump has to b Nstalled by a dealer or yourself...no USDM Z34 comes stock w/it! Let me kno!

phunk 09-08-2013 03:30 AM

The problem is not the fuel pump, it's the gas tank.

1slow370 09-09-2013 01:30 PM

Unless the rivised pump assembly has a different bucket and syphon fitting, but even then it won't work for return setups, big pumps, dual pumps, triple pumps. Those would still need a different can.

phunk 09-09-2013 02:17 PM

Yes it is possible to resolve with a much more complex sending unit, such as we did...

The thing is, a few posts up, synolimit posted pics of the pump from his 2013. We can see that it is unchanged, or at least has no significant changes that will contribute to aiding the starvation. If Nissan had some epic new fuel sending unit design, there is no reason to skimp on the USDM cars, we would have it too.
