Help! VDC, ABS, and Traction lights on out of no where

The car is a 2010 Nismo 6mt. A few minutes ago, the VDC, traction, and ABS lights popped on in my car. From that point on, traction control was actually disabled, and my car began to hesitate at around 2500pms - 4000rpms.

Has anyone experienced similar issues before? Anyone familiar with what the issue can be? I tried to restart the car a few times in hopes the issue would clear, but it persists. Any feedback would be helpful.

check you're brake fluid

boosted3z 04-11-2013 07:15 AM

break fluid, huh? :ugh2:

Modern cars are pretty good at diagnosing themselves. Get thee an OBD scanner and see what the car thinks is wrong. You can buy a scanner for <$50 (or up to several $1000s) or borrow/rent one at most auto parts stores.

And, yes, something as "weird" as brake fluid level can trip all sorts of alarms. In this case, I suspect a bad/misaligned wheel sensor. See what the car thinks.

This very issue happened to me at the track once. My brake fluid was just real low. I had just trashed a set of pads

if you had the ebrake light pop up it could have been your steering sensor...

b15 04-11-2013 08:53 AM

I had the same three lights pop up on my 08 Altima 3.5 and it was from a leaky master cylinder causing the fluid to get low. While they ordered a new MC- Nissan top it off and the lights went away. If you still have warranty, just take it in.

Won't rev past 2500rpm correct? If so, your car is in limp mode.

That's not asphalt. That's what left of my Brake pads.

Lets kick up this thread, this same thing happened to me today. Except I felt like the engine was getting choked at 1-5th gear then by next light engine was fine but lights stayed on... Drove like over 200miles today lol

LafitteZ 07-25-2013 06:24 AM

They are serious about the brake fluid. It will do that if the brake fluid is low. Also make sure the steering shaft it tightened down to the rack. When those lights come on your car thinks its out of control. You have to get the code and see what the problem is.

gbrettin 07-25-2013 10:46 PM

I just started getting the VDC and the traction control symbol under hard braking. I also sometimes get the e-brake under moderate acceleration. Maybe I have the best of both worlds... low fluid and a loose steering shaft?

1slow370 07-26-2013 01:19 AM

e brake on accel could also be a sticky rear pad in the ebrake drums or more likely since you're up nort one of youre ebrake cables might be sticky so when the wheel moves its actually lifting the ebrake switch that or the switch is loose vdc and tc under hard braking may be normal (if youre hard braking is actually panic level braking) or you may has an issue. but yeah low brake fluid definitely will light up the christmas tree and most people aren't going to come bake and say yup my i was stupid and never checked my brake fluid level in the last 3 years

gbrettin 07-26-2013 09:52 AM

Let me rewind a little. I had to stomp on the brakes under a panic situation and I saw the VDC and Traction control light go off. I figured it was the system letting me know that I probably shouldn't go from 70mph to 0 so quickly. From that point on I now see the VDC and Traction control light come on under WOT with the combination of hitting a bump or something. It doesn't happen often... then again im not WOT often.

I'm going to take my car into get serviced. I'll post back with results.

Have you checked the fluid before you take the time to take it in?

sstroudwku 07-26-2013 10:15 PM

Let me clear a few things up here. Those lights are associated with more than traction control. Your VDC system relies on engine speed signals to help regulate the throttle input. These lights will come on if you have a cam sensor go bad. They will come of if a speed sensor goes bad, if an abs solenoid fails, if your steering angle sensor is not calibrated correctly, if the fluid is low, if there is a variation in the speeds between individual wheels. The list goes on. You should know an important bit of information. IF the lights are all on together and stay on, your ABS is disabled. The system acts as a standard hydraulic brake system. Get it scanned and fixed, use quality parts, it's an expensive car don't try to save a few bux using cheap *** autozone parts.

1slow370 07-27-2013 05:39 PM

to what he said about going wide open throttle and having the lights flash when driving over a bump, yeah the lights should be flashing they are telling you that that the car had to cut power because you drove over a bump at wot and the wheels started slipping

1slow370 07-27-2013 05:43 PM

if the lights just flash and go out combined with you doing something that may cause wheel slip, then they are just telling you that the car is doing it's job andeverything is normal. if the lights come on and stay on then something is wrong this is in the owners manual.

Im working through the same issue...

Is SRM/speedo/milage/active MPG monitor working? Mine is not and I have all the same lights.
Mine is an issue somewhere with the abs actuator/wss-abs system. Had my buddy who is a master tech at Nissan scan it with Consult 3 and they could not find the issue.

Xcending 10-13-2014 08:22 AM

Every time the engine start getting very hot this 3 light will show up. I went to the service center of Nissan, if say that the fan are getting very weak and need to change a new moto.
I have bough the moto but have not change it, hope this will help.

Help! VDC, ABS, and Traction lights on out of no where

Not sure if it helps, but had the same problem after fitting my GReddy TT, one of the ABS sensor wires got cut off / split somehow, also the steering needed recalibrating in Consult III as I removed the steering knuckle and pushed the steering column higher so I can work in there :)

Reading the errors in Consult III helped a lot, obviously.
