The forged performance 370z just got back to the shop this afternoon. I talked with Sandy and they were rolling it inside while i was talking to her.

I look forward to seeing it tomorrow or thursday

Did you ask if it fits the 370Z 6MT? They may just be saying "no" on the 370Z in general because they're not aware they share a diff.

But in any case, the VSLD kinda sucks - it fails under excessive heat (which isn't too hard), and the VSLD part will wear out with enough hard miles anyways, which kills your limited slip for good until you get the VSLD clutch part replaced (which I imagine isn't cheap). I'm seriously thinking I should upgrade to a better LSD of some kind anyways, and change gears while I'm at it (probably just upgrade the 7AT one to the 6MT's stock gear ratio of 3.7-ish). Edit: VSLD is also less efficient than other kinds too, so upgrading can kill some drivetrain losses.

Here we go with the two OEM Nissan figure:

350Z

370Z

From the images and parts numbers, we can see that 370Z diff comes with 4 satellites..... 350Z with only 2 satellites...

The other components seem to be more or less the same...

Any of you can give a reliable tech opinion?

It would be of great interest for many of us here..... because there are a lot of ring-pinion couples for 350Z and would be important to be sure that they fit our 370Z....

I don't have a very informed technical opinion, but based on those diagrams I would say the Ring+Pinion gear sets are likely compatible, since they share a part number. Also, I think we've already had reports elsewhere on the forums of people upping their rear ratios to 4.xx for the dragstrip, so they must've used 350Z-designed parts.

However, most of those diagrams is greek to me. I rebuilt a differential once with a couple friends (A giant Dana one on an International Harvester Scout), and it was a complete PITA.

Lots of re-trying over and over to get certain parts pressed in with a lot of force while shimmed to an offset that was precise to hundredths of an inch, and then re-measuring and seeing that the shimming needed more adjusting, pull it back out, blah blah. Then you have all the funny noises during breakin, and wondering whether you really got it right or if the teeth are .002" too deep or shallow causing problems later, etc.

So if I ever do switch diffs and/or gears, this is one job where I'm just gonna hand the parts to a reputable mechanic that works on this stuff every day and let them go to town. There's a shop here in Houston I used before to do diff and clutch stuff on my Trans Am. They're a mechanic shop that specializes in working exclusively on differentials/gearboxes/manual transmissions of any kind and clutches, for just about any vehicle (mostly big trucks), they did a good job last time around

The car is still really rough at this stage. We have a mountain of additional prep work, painting, and beautifing as we go. So I probably wont post a ton more pics of the car until it looks more presentable.

But I will definately update as components go on, such as the fuel cell, JRZ triples, wheels/tires..etc.etc. I really want to get out and drive this thing....TODAY!

Do the rules stipulate that the doors have to open? If not why not dump everything except the door shells and weld the shell onto the body reducing weight even more. With those NASCAR style bars opening the door doesn't make engress/egress any easier with the door open or closed.
