Loose shifter problems
So about nine months ago i installed a TWM short shifter and its been great smooth shifts every time and recently my shifter has gotten really loose. I took it apart to see if it was a issue with the linkage but the rod connecting to the transmission moves with the slightest movement of the shifter. The problem is when i can move the shifter left and right when i have it in gear like a half inch of play in 3rd and 4th gear. In 1,2,5,6th are all fine. Any ideas?

I don't know but I have my TWM kit ready to install. I'm a little concerned now though. Do you really think the looseness is related to the shift kit?

Since nobody else is chiming in, here's my SWAG:
Some kind of bushing/guide is worn and needs to be adjusted or replaced.

I would check the plastic housing the shifter pivots in to make sure a piece hasn't cracked or broken off. Sometimes the piece can be damaged while hammering the twm shifter in without you knowing.

Hmm yeah thats weird. Im going to pull it all apart tomorrow or tuesday depending on how tomorrow goes and check that plastic piece.
It is definitely related to me putting it in myself and maybe not the shifter. i followed the instructions perfectly, but.... I had a friend under the car who was suppose to tighten the linkage. He probably wasnt my best choice to help but the car was doing great for 9 months after install and all of a sudden like super loose. Called the dealership they said nobody has ever had a problem like that before cause i was concerned with the tranny. But thats not it. |

I've had my twm ss on for.about a year now, no probs, knock on wood. I do remember when i installed it the looseness or tightness of the shift linkage bolt made a big difference on the feel of thr shifter. It sounds like it has loosened up. IIRC, the torque specs are very low, i believe 8 ft/lbs. If it did loosen up, throw some red loctite on there before you torque it down again.

Good thing you caught that now before you got stuck in gear while driving.
