OEM battery (past problems starting)
So, this is the full backstory (with videos):
http://www.the370z.com/engine-drivet...-starting.html Cliff Notes: Car has infrequent starting problems, it cranks like a SOB, dealer had my car for 13 days, says everything is my battery. I get the battery tested twice today... 915CCA, 925CCA Is it possible that my battery is putting that much out? The places I tested it at both said it puts a load on the battery then tests it or some crap... |
Sounds kinda high to me, but they've made a lot of advances with batteries lately. In any case, it sounds like a good battery.
If the dealer says it's the battery, have them replace it. Tell 'em to save the old battery. If the new battery doesn't fix the problem, have them put your old one back in and go find another dealer/service dept. |
I don't know why I don't message you directly, lol
I still have my starting problems after I got a Costco battery. I was more just curious if you could get SUCH a high number from a 3 year old OEM battery |
I'm used to seeing 400-600 CCA (and less) out of a new car battery, but it's been at least 10 years since I've spec'd a battery. Battery technology has progressed a lot since then, so I wouldn't be too surprised if those numbers are in the ball park. Sounds like over-kill for a small engine with the ability to alter valve timing to me, but I'm old school.
A lot depends on the test equipment and the person running the test, but if you used two different places, I'm inclined to believe them. Given those test results, I think it's safe to say that the battery is not the problem. Which leads me to believe that your mechanic doesn't have the slightest idea what's going on. I don't either, but I'm not getting paid to know. ;) Unless you have a dead short somewhere, you can't have too much ampacity; the car only draws what it needs. |
