P3434 CEL code
What's up guys, I've done some searching and can't find anything so I figured I'd post it up.
I got my car earlier this week and last night I installed invidia Catless test pipes and invidia Gemini exhaust. I was expecting to throw a code for the cats, which it did, but there was a second code, and I was wondering if you guys could shed some light on this for me since I'm new to v6's and nissans. The code is P3434- Cylinder 5 Deactivation/Intake Valve Ctrl Perf Any help on what the eff that is would be much appreciated. Austin

I did some Googling and all I came up with is the same "Cylinder 5 Deactivation/Intake Valve Ctrl Perf" you already found. No explanation of what it means.
May have been a one-time glitch. Clear the DTC and see if it comes back.

I reset the ecu and let the car idle for about 5 min. Hopefully it stays off for a while when I drive. I'll report back with any info.

From what I could tell, that's not a Nissan-specific DTC. It's part of the standard set of codes. It was mentioned (but no specifics given ) on several non-Nissan sites.
IMNSHO, resetting the ECM (I'm assuming you mean pulling the battery cable) is an all-else-has-failed solution. Sometimes it's needed, but I put it fairly low on the list of things to do. I suggest using an OBD scanner to clear codes before resetting the ECM. YMMV. You can buy an OBD scanner for well under $100 nowadays (some < $30 according to a quick web search) that will allow you to read any DTCs (modern cars can be amazingly good at diagnosing themselves) and clear them. Most of the "fancier" ones will allow you to monitor fuel trims and other parameters when troubleshooting. Well worth the money if you do any engine/drivetrain mods. I have a ScanGuageII on the dash displaying vehicle speed (so I don't have to look down at the speedometer) and engine coolant temperature (the dash gauge sucks). Edit: I'd also recommend that you download the FSM (link in my sig). Great resource.

Yea I disconnected the battery, I tried doing some method that I found on here to turn off the ses light but I failed miserably doing it.. Ill have to go get another OBD scanner since mine manically disappeared when I needed it. I'm assuming the P3434 is some how connected to the catalytic converter code that I threw since they both came on at the same time. If I find anything else about it, I'll post up here just in case anybody else ever runs into this.
Thanks, ill definitely download that SM. Quote:

Well the ses light came back on. Ill be getting a scanner in the morning on the way to cars and coffee to see if the p3434 code is still there.
If I can't figure anything out, I guess I'll be putting the stock test pipes back on since I can't live sanely with that light on. -_-

If you don't figure out something soon, I'd have a dealer look at it. I can't imagine how exhaust mods could affect an intake valve, but, considering how little I know about these cars, that's not surprising.

I checked the codes again today with a NICE code reader and not the autozone special one, and the P3434 wasn't there. Just the P204 and 205. I cleared the codes and they haven't come on yet so while they're off I'm going to go to summit and get a couple o2 non-foulers since that seems to be the best fix for it since I can't find anybody within 200miles that tunes Z's.
