Anyone using K&N Pro Series PS-1008 or PS-1010 Oil Filters?
I searched on the forum with no results on these filters..
Anyone know if they're better than the regular HP-1008 or HP-1010 (longer)? I'm installing a Z1 34-row oil cooler this week and I'm doing an oil change at the same time.. I've been using the longer HP-1010 for a while but came across the Pro Series and made me wonder if it's worth it.. Any input? Thank you! |
What's the alleged difference between the PS and HP units?

Well, I think I answered the question myself..
I read through this --> K&N Oil Filters - Oil Filters for Cars, Trucks, Motorcycles, ATV's, Boats, and more! It looks like the white (wrench-off) filters are better than the black ones (pro series). |
I'm using Mobil 1 oil filters and examinations on BITOG concluded that it is most likely the same element, anti drain valve, etc inside a different can, manufactured by Champ Labs.
Notice the 'Y' stamped into the mounting plate of the filter and how it appears on the Mobil, K&N, Champ filters? That's enough to keep me happy but i wouldn't mind trying a Purolator filter at some stage. I'm also running the longer version (M1-110) but stock oil cooler. Keep in mind the thermostatic sandwich plate will make the filter poke even further to the left but i dont recall any obstruction. The p/s hose near the filter gets in the way sometimes. I just pull it away from the filter slightly when screwing it on - definitely don't want to cross any threads due to the hose pushing the filter a little sideways during installation. |
