rattling noise during 1st gear

I been noticing rattling noise during 1st gear when I take off on low rpm.. noise go away when I press down on the gas pedal and pick up speed. Its only happen in 1st gear. Anyone experience this? My car have 16K miles and its a manual transmission.

I think that's normal if just gently taking off without giving much gas. Try increasing revs as you launch and see if it goes away.

Yep its normal.

I still don't think it's normal since the rattling noise only occurs on the 1st gear. I can understand when we "accidently" launch on 2nd or 3rd gear then the rattle is normal.

I hear the noise too, and not just in first gear. Its usually when the RPMS are low and there is load on the trans ie driving around a parking lot while in 2nd gear.

Transmissions in these cars are loud. I think better gear oil should help. I'm gonna do my grear oil change when I upgrade clutch&flywheel.

Nothing surprises me about our manual transmission anymore. I just wish it could pop popcorn when I'm driving.

I changed the clutch and trans oil with Redline. Still rattling :shakes head:

Well, kinda glad I'm not the only one hearing this in their car.

Its probably the dual mass flywheel rattling around.

The sound reminds me of some trucks actually

Yup. Same sound that will happen when you turn the car off with the clutch engaged.

It's this exactly.

bluebird244 02-22-2013 10:19 AM

It could be the power-wheel steering fluid.
