Is the steering lock essential to the car for it to work?
Do I really need the steering lock? Can I take out the steering lock completely and the car would still work fine? I know people are pulling the fuse or cutting the wired to disable the lock, so it seems like the lock is not essential for the car to work so do I need it? Can I take out the lock completely?
Please no one give me a hard time on the topic I will start crying! :( |
There are signals that are needed to start the car. If you remove the lock, it won't start. Removing the fuse just removes power from the relay I believe.

According to other users on this site and the FSM, there are "handshaking" signals passed between the SLU and the BCM that are required for the car to start. Pulling the fuse/cutting the brown wire/installing harness just kills power to the motor that actuates the locking pin. Search is your friend.

Pull the fuse. I repeat....pull the fuse.
You will have no problems after pulling the fuse, plus your worries about being stranded will cease to exist ! |
You posted this already in the steering lock thread. Please read threw it. The answer was in there only a dozen times.

Look, I know you're REALLY butt-hurt that you bought a 370Z, and shortly thereafter the steering lock needed replacement costing you like $1400... But don't dwell on it!!!
Just pull the damn fuse and call it a day |
