Mobil 1 0w40 Users?

Many Z owners use this oil? Ran into a random Z driver in a parking lot yesterday and got to talking. He's been using MB1 0w-40 for over 30k+ miles

Default Mobil 1 0w40 Users?

Many Z owners use this oil?

Ran into a random Z driver in a parking lot yesterday and got to talking. He's been using MB1 0w-40 for over 30k+ miles and "swears by it."

Mentioned better flow at start up and protection during "hot drives" and a better anti-wear additive pkg. He also does the Oil Analysis thru Blackstone.

P.S. Been using MB1 5w-30 in mine

How does he know it has better flow during start up? Has he noticed a huge difference in temps from what Nissan tells us to use? And if yes what temps is he running? Better Anti-Wear additive pkg sounds like he is just talking out of his a**.

Well, it flows better because it's 0W

I wouldn't run 40 for any reason, car recommends 30, I use 30, no need to run thicker oil if I don't have to


And I think Mobil 1 is amazing, just not for this car

Stick with your 30 weight. The engine was designed for 30; 40 will be too thick for optimal operation. 40 probably won't do enough damage to worry about (more stress on the pump, &c), but why use the wrong stuff when the right stuff is readily available? If you were making long hauls in the desert, there might be an advantage to using 40; for everybody else, stick to the factory recommendations.

And if I cared to run Mobil 1 in my car, I'd run 0w30

Because that is how oil weights work?

From what's I've seen, the 0W oils work really well in the VQs. GC was a dream in mine.

For this guy specifically, M1 0W-40 is really thin for a 40W oil. It seems to run really well in the VQs, as they tend to like an oil that is slightly thicker at temp. UOAs look amazing.

I was a little skeptical about the "Extra Anti-Wear Protection," so I looked on the MB1 website and found that 0w-40 does in fact have just a little more Zinc/Phos additive, which is a common additive for reduced wear.

Also, it's spec'd for BMW & Mercedes (Normally calls for 5w-30; 0w-40 is rec. when using MB1) and GT-R etc...

As for "better flow," I think it's b/c it's a 0w weight oil.

p.s. He did say that his Oil Temps always ran high during the summer and that's why he changed over for a more "stable" oil at high temp

P.p.s I doubt he's on any forums... older guy

But he is still assuming. Especially on start up.

Well, let's remove the need to assume then!


Redline 5W-30: 62 cST @40C
Mobil 1 5W-30: 61.7 cST @40C
Amsoil 5W-30: 60.3 cST@ 40C

Whether the higher viscosity in cold is helpful is a bigger questions, but most UOAs seem to indicate the VQs wear less with a 0W oil in them.

If I still had mine and was planning to keep it, I would have no qualms running GC or the M1 oil. I would not go back to a 5W oil though.

Ive been running 0w40 mobil 1 for allmost 80,000 miles with FI and my UOA's come back great.

I needed to get an oil change before I got my tune and was given the advise to use M1 0-40 by the tuner. I think I will continue to use it as temperature can be extremely hot here.

You just love to throw up all these facts huh? There is no reason to run that type of oil. Does he think Nissan the creators of the car do not know what they are doing.

I've used M1 0W40 since my second oil change. Only 12k miles on the car, but everything seems to be working well. Next change is going with a 25 row cooler though. I'm tired of running 200+ degrees down the highway on a cool day.
