For our Asia hot weather,5w-40 is fine....actually 5w is useless here,we don't have cold winter,so most important in our country is the behind reading,40-50 should be fine...

No, thicker oil would more than likely get hotter as it's being "squished" more...

Even then, using 40 or 50 oil could potentially damage the engine.

5w-30 should be common nearly everywhere (even overseas, unless your area doesn't have any new vehicles from the past 10 years). Look around for it.

^ ya that makes sense having too thick an oil. I wont stray to -50, but everyone here with the 350s are using the -40, and the dealer is too.. so i guess its different..

i might try the -30 too and see if it makes any difference..

since u at Brunei, I m Motul Distributor Sarawak and u may look for me at Miri.
I do hv Motul H-Tech 5w30 100% synthetic 4L (Made In Singapore) or Motul 300v Power Racing 5w30 100% synthetic double ester 2L (Made In France)

Our Motul Oil is pure fully imported! I do posted some advertisment at brunei website but kena deleted! maybe control by BSM*(SHELL) so cant enter Brunei yet!

in asia tropical country, the max is using xW-50, but i m sure your new ride wont need xW-50!!!

try the low viscosity 0w30/5w30!! all the oil will flash over 200 degree celsier, do your engine reach that temperature? somemore our tropical temperature is hot right? but our radiator is working and the termostate is work on time too! so wont getting high temperature except something wrong to your engine cooling system!

strong recommend Motul Engine oil & Lubricants for Nissan, Subaru and etc!!
Motul Nismo Competition Oil available too!!!

Not quite - Nissan recommends using their oil which has particles in it to work with the valvetrain, and is suspected to have Esters.

Outside of that, the manual says you can use any oil as long as it meets specs outlined in the manual, which is pretty much any 5w-30 on the shelf these days...but, I'd at least recommend a reputable synthetic.

i'm fine with the synthetic i have at the moment. i read in my manual the car takes all sorts of oils from 5w-30 to 10w-40 so it wudnt really make much difference. the high oil temp is a wellknown issue, and annoyingly it rises really quickly at high revs.. my direction should really be an oil cooler but we'll see..

What is ester oil and how is it different than conventional oil?

Ester oil is synthetic base oil that has been chemically synthesized. Typically ester oils are used in passenger car air conditioning compressors, refrigerators, and other industrial applications. Esters are one of the classes of synthetics that have been used in Mobil 1 products as well. Esters are stable molecules, provide good solvency, and provide very good low temperature and high temperature performance in engine oils.

I would be scared using 5w40 or 5w50 for the car. The viscosity while hot is too much. The rule is simple go lower than recommended never higher.

Recommended by Nissan: 5w30
You can use synthetic:
-5w30
-5w20
-5w10
-0w30
-0w20
-0w10

I would recommend 5w20 though. It's always better to go a tad lower.

Allegedly Nissan's blend has a special affinity at the mollecular level for the DLC coating on the valvetrain.

Now is that really significant and will other ester oils perform just as well? Who knows?

However, I know I haven't seen an esepecially good UOA from anyone using the Nissan oil yet, which is not a ringing endorsement...

I'm going to try Castrol 0-W30 on my next change.

I asked my first question today and I searched a little longer to find the answer by you on this post. Thank you. I did notice just from a short 20 mile drive with the Mobil 1 ester base oil that the engine was quieter. I leaned on it too to verify the engine was a little quieter. I know this isn't a Versa or a Roque so I don't mind paying a premium for the oil. The engine can't be cheap to replace if stuff happens. Thanks!!

Currently using Redline but seriously considering AMSOIL Signature Series 5w30 Synthetic plus their EA15K12 oil filter. Do the research though.
