Quick question for knowledgeable Z guys

New to the forum, been lurking around and learning what I can about the 370.. Does this gear (4.08) look fine (the rust coloring on part of it)? Thinking about buying from another member, and hope its not a silly question.

That's marking compound. Used for setting up the gears & verifying pattern. It's fine

:iagree: but I'd say 4.08's are a bit too tall for this car's first gear.

6MT I have read about that, but I don't drag or track my cars.. Basically just like to rip it up on the back roads, so 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears is where all the fun is for me..

Well, a local here tried it. He found that first gear was pretty useless. Starting from a red light was annoying. The engine revved up so fast, that after a second he had to shift. He tried to start in second, and that's no solution.

Let's just say it was a disaster and he went back to OEM ratio.

The description you give below sounds like you mean too short

A tall gear would be a lower numeric ratio.
