Thump/Clunk from rear when coming to a stop.

My stock Z (2012 MT/base/sport) has developed a noise when coming to a complete stop. It only happens if I brake firmly, although, even in regular traffic if I brake just a little bit too hard it makes the same sound.

I took everything out of the hatch area and tightened the spare as tight as it will go and it still makes the noise. The sound itself is fairly deep and loud but not metallic or grating. The best way I can describe it would be if you punched a plastic trashcan with your fist, that same kind of heavy thump.

Any ideas before I brave the dealership?

its your rear halfshafts, they need to be re lubricated. It happened to me around 20k and i too have a 6mt. It won't cost anything if you are under 36k. The grease is a special order item so it should be able to be done by the end of the week. They need the car for most of the day though becasue they have to remove A LOT!

Thanks for the info! That doesn't sound like anything that needs to be addressed immediately (right?), so I'll probably just wait until my next oil change and have the dealership take care of it.
