Awd?

Has anyone ever thought about doing this in the Z? I know there a guy with a 350 that pulled it off. I think he used G35x parts. Would this even be possable with our cars? Using G37x parts? I just thought it was an interesting idea... 370Z-R ;-)

On an MT?

Here are the links to the 350z AWD. Looks interesting bit I would just get the G37x and put some go fast parts on it.

Yes

Unless the car is putting down 600+ WHP, I wouldn't see the need to.

Shouldn't be impossible though if you wanted to do it.

Had a mechanic friend of mine help me out with an oil change (he doesn't know anything about the 370Z) and while the car was on the rack he asked me if this car came with AWD as an option. I said no. He said that there must be another Nissan that shares the same platform that comes with AWD as an option because of this... (and I forgot what it was he pointed to).

I thought about it and realized that the G sedans are based on the same platform and come with AWD as an option. It would be interesting to see if someone could pull it off. Don't see why you would want to though.

Lemers 01-17-2013 11:38 AM

He would want it so he can drive it during the Main winter.

G37Sam 01-17-2013 01:07 PM

I thought about that when I was doing my RB swap since RB26's came with AWD. It's just such a tight fit I would salute whoever pulls it off.

fuct 01-17-2013 02:14 PM

im sure someone can post up some g37X undershots. lets see what alls different.

lemon-fresh 01-17-2013 02:46 PM

Would only be worth it if it came with significant engine upgrades.

AlexRaymond19 01-17-2013 02:49 PM

If it is possible i want to give it a try. The Z is my DD during the non-snow months, but its going to be my project car pretty soon. I wonder how close in size the G37 really is, anyone have under car shots?

AlexRaymond19 01-17-2013 02:50 PM

You know how they did the Juke-R? Well a TT AWD Z would be pretty sick, just saying...

cossie1600 01-17-2013 03:03 PM

it also cost 2x the gtr and it WS built b

MyKindaGuise 01-17-2013 03:19 PM

I saw a 350z race car that was TT at 800hp, G35x AWD, and had a sequential gearbox. It was disgusting. I am pretty interested in this too actually. I would love AWD.

AlexRaymond19 01-17-2013 03:28 PM

Im going to scout some local wreck yards and see if any of them have a trashed G37x for parts

chrischhorn 01-17-2013 03:29 PM

just what we need... more weight up front lol. woulrld be awesome for the track but dd i love my rwd!

AlexRaymond19 01-17-2013 03:35 PM

Well that's the thing, i love it too... Also extra weight won't be that bad with the ponies to back it up, and the added handling ability would out weight the extra weight added

AlexRaymond19 01-17-2013 03:43 PM

So i got a bunch of hits for parts... What do i need to pickup exactly? Just the whole awd assembly?

Your best bet with this is getting a whole car with all the transmission pieces still connected. This way you can just pick pieces off as you need them and if they do not fit just custom fab something new but you have an idea of what was originally on the G.

+1 on getting the whole car. Good luck. I think it's a cool project, but I think getting all the electronics to play nice together might be a nightmare.

I 2nd this. Very good idea. Too bad you cant get it in a manual.

AlexRaymond19 01-18-2013 04:52 AM

I wonder how much that would cost...

Id look for a wrecked g37x awd first. Since this is a not done before project You should spend the least ammount possible incase this doesnt work at all. If it does work you can always find a used g37x or just by individual parts at that point.

AlexRaymond19 01-18-2013 07:29 AM

Good idea! im going to try to find someone local with a G37x and see if i can get a peak under the car, maybe take some measurment and see if there is anything that is going to be an obvious issue or set back. I am pretty excited about this!

Yeah, find a local G37 forum or head over the myg37 website.
Also, your best bet is finding either a burned/water car which usually will give the best recovery for the underside after that look for probably direct side damage.

EVOHUNTER 01-19-2013 04:22 PM

Money can get anything done, But basically the whole front end susp need to be changed out, all the hubs would have to be changed out to the g37 hubs, AWD module needs to be riged up, and linked to all 4 wheels inless u want 4x4. The g37x transmission/subframe needs to be swaped in. You cant use the manual trans, unless u run a drive shaft from the tranfer case to the front, but attach it to what? it cant be done, You might aswell sell the 370z and buy a g37x if u want all wheel drive. Inless u want your z to be automatic.
I know this first hand, because ive had a g37x transmission assembly on the floor of my shop, had the Z up in the air, It cant be done with the manual trans.

AlexRaymond19 01-20-2013 08:42 AM

Automatic would suck... What are the other options? Custom fab?

Tyler_370z 01-22-2013 09:12 AM

just buy an evo ladies haha. I thought about it too but the weight difference from front to back on the 370z I dont think it would work at all honestly. but not a bad idea to try it I would like a 370Z AWD Twin Turbo but prolly looking at making a $40,000 car into like a $70,000 so just buy a GTR or EvoX

djrelic 01-23-2013 10:05 PM

They never offered the G35x or G37x in both coupe/sedan EVER in manual transmission.

Don't know why, but if you wanted an AWD G35/37 with stick. You could never find or build it from the factory.

Right, for AWD manual with the ATTESA (acronym for Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All- Terrain) you need to go back to the R34 skyline GT-R in Japan.

Sell 370Z, buy GTR. Probably cheaper.
