The problem is, we don't know exactly which esters are used in the Nissan Ester Oil. While other synthetic oils like Mobil 1 and Amsoil may have esters, they may not be the ones that work best with the DLC coating on the valvetrain.

Going back to the owners manual, I feel that if there was an oil that needed to be used, it would mention it. The only thing it requires is the oil meeting the API standards (I think). Somebody correct me if I am wrong.
