Replaced battery, now having issues starting car.
I recently replaced the car battery and both of my key fob batteries, but now I am having issues with the engine starting. I get in the car, press the clutch in and the brake in then press the start button. Car powers up, but engine remains off. I press the start button again and the car turns off. Before replacing the car battery I could get in, press in the clutch and brake and turn on the car from here. I don't remember have any issues before. Has anyone experienced this? I have consulted the owner's manual and still don't see what i am missing. Thanks for any suggestions.

Same here.
Difficulty in starting my z. Planning to replace the old batteries. Hopefully will have no issue with the replace batteries. |
Take it to the dealer and might need to have your key's re-synched to the car. Sometimes happens with swapping the batteries.

So I'm guessing we are not able to resync manually?

I researched this more and I see a lot of articles on the steering wheel lock issue, but mine doesn't seem to be the same since I am able to roll the windows up and down as well as unlocking the doors with my key fob. When i talked to the dealer they mentioned something about checking a clutch switch? Anyone familiar with this?

It might be the steering lock. Do you hear it disengage? Is this happening all the time or every once in a while? With both fobs?
I would try removing the battery cables for a few minutes and reinstalling it again. There is no reason why it should reset like that. Replace the fob batteries while you're at it to or place it in the fob thingy near the steering wheel. |
I replaced the car battery and the key fob batteries in november. Right after doing so, I started noticing the engine wouldn't start every time. It would go a few days where it would start up perfectly then it would go back to being intermittent on when it would start up the first time. This past week it would take me about 5-10min to get the engine to turn on. I can hear the steering lock disengaging as well. Over the wknd I did remove the battery cables and let it sit hoping it would reset but i am still getting the same issue. Like i said, I'm still able to start the car after a while of trying but its pretty annoying, I didnt want to take it in to the dealer if I didnt need to, I was hoping there may be something i was overlooking. Thanks for all the help guys.

Did you try placing in the fob in the slot? It doesn't sound like steering lock if it's intermittent like that. If you are able to get it into "ACC" it also means the car is reading the fob just fine. You usually get a warning on the left lcd if the fob isn't being detected.
What kind of battery did you replace it with? Double check & make sure it has enough cranking amps. I think it's something like 750 cold cranking amps minimum. I don't remember. |
I have tried with the key fob in the slot, the car will go into ACC mode and On mode, but when you try to turn the engine nothing happens. It's really strange. I'll have to double check the name of the battery as well as the cold cranking amps.

It's a super start extreme from OReilly auto parts:
12 Volt Cold Cranking Amps: 625 Cranking Amps: 775 Reserve Capacity: 95 Minutes CCA: 625 Reserve Capacity: 95 Minutes Quantity Per Vehicle: 1 |
I honestly don't remember what the original battery specs are, but I would make sure it meets those as a minimum. Since this all started with the new battery, I would try swapping it out with a new one before taking it to the dealer. They'll charge you $50-150 just to look at it if you don't have a warranty.

625 cca and those cranking amps specs are way sufficient
