To OP:

I'm gonna do the same, at the same place in a few days :)

brucelidat 07-15-2013 03:54 PM

OP, was Specialty Z able to do it all in one day? id you find the manual diff yourself, or did Seb help on that front? I am pretty interested in this, but would really like to do it all in one shot and not have to leave the car overnight so it can be incognito without the GF fiance knowing I dropped 2k for a new mod...

brucelidat 07-15-2013 03:54 PM

Also, did you get a tune after this or do we need it?

brucelidat 07-15-2013 04:07 PM

If a manual diff was hard to come by and I decided to drop a Quaife LSD in there along with the gears, would I get the one for the manual, auto, or vlsd? I have a 7at with sport package. Just wondering if I would need one for manuals since the gears need a manual diff for install.

A tune is not needed for this, if you send an MT pumpkin and the gears there in advance you'll save a lot of time.

I have a 7AT non sport (so open diffs) I had to do a manual quaife with gears and about 6 shims

brucelidat 07-15-2013 08:00 PM

about how much of a hit are taking in mpg in normal driving?

Red_Z 07-15-2013 09:39 PM

I have a 7AT base Z, so if I am going to do the gear and LSD the same time. I should be able to to use my own pumpkin, but I need to purchase a Manual LSD + the 4.08 gears?

If you have a base 7AT (non sport) then all you need is the manual Quaife Differential and 4.08 Gears (yes you use your pumpkin). When its in the pumpkin they will have to measure lash back to determine the shims needed for proper fitment. My car needed about 6 shims at the price of $20 each. FML

I dont feel a difference in gas mileage, but with the boost in acceleration i tend to hit the pedal harder so that lowers my MPG lol

i was talking to Seb about this when i got tuned a few weeks ago..he says he needs 3 or 4 days to do the job..
he can gets the gears and install kit but you need to get the Diff yourself..
any question just call and talk to him..

I had dropped off all my stuff when I got them in and he was able to do the gear swap during his own time. Then when I had my appt with him he pretty much just swapped out the entire differential. Swapping up the differentials doesn't take that long to do but the gear swap is time consuming. Drop of your parts to him and just schedule an appt for a different day.

Street drivingI actually think I am getting better MPG, but on the freeway I went from like 27-29MPG to like 24ish MPG. It's not that big of difference at all. Check out the videos I posted to see the RPM's comparison from before and after the gears.

megalapagas 07-26-2013 04:16 AM
