Background story is Nissan did a recall after the first three revisions were all failing. Then the rev d had similar issues. So instead of issuing another recall (those cost $$$), they just stopped putting the ESCL in the Z. That way they wouldn't have to document more failures that could lead to another recall.

Yeah I did hear about no ESLU in the 2012 + models. So is there some other type of steeering lock? Surely there must be something?

No. There is no form of steering lock in the Z as of 2012.

A Nissan OEM part purchase gives money to Nissan regardless of the vendor you purchase it from. Don't support Nissan by giving them money and pull the fuse instead.

Default recall

There is a recall on the part. Go to the dealer and they will replace it for free.
1 I paid for and got a refund from Nissan. The second time I used the recall and all was fixed for FREE.

Last I heard, the recall was limited. Some folks on this site have reported that they were denied replacement under the recall. But, yeah, at least give them a call if you are experiencing ESCL problems - they'll never say yes if you don't ask.

Contact Nissan Customer Service. I have a 2009. It went out and got replaced by me paying for it. Complained to Nissan and they relayed me. Then issued a recall. Mine went out a 2nd time but was replaced free due to recall. You need the “E”version.

Hi all,

Now having the same issue myself. I'm driving what I THOUGHT was a 2013 370Z Coupe, but I'm not sure when it was actually built since it evidently still has that steering lock which has now failed.

I just hit 66 666 km on it (which could be the reason, hehe), and actually it failed the first time already a couple of weeks ago. Took it to a Nissan dealer and they had apparently never seen anything like this, but said it was apparently some electrical grounding issue in the steering wheel lock control unit(?). They did some shady fix on it without actually changing any parts, but warned that since they didn't know what the root cause was, it could fail again and then it's probably best to the change the whole unit. And sure enough it did fail on Saturday, and had to be towed for a 100km. Glad that was at least covered by the Nissan Road Assistance or whatever it's called.

So I guess I'll try to argue the official recall in order to try and avoid paying for the repair myself? Anyone else had this issue recently? Were you successful in avoiding to pay the costs yourself? I'm Finland, and the 370Zs are exceedingly rare here, I got mine second hand 2 years ago, and I've seen like TWO other 370Z on the roads since then.
