Default 5qts Of Oil=Oil Level In The Middle?

Hey guys I was just wondering if putting 5 qts will get the level up to the middle or the full dot. I am asking this because I am concerned right now that my car with 9000 miles is consuming oil already. I changed the oil and put 5.15 qts and it was to the FULL dot. 1204 miles later I checked the level and it was in the MIDDLE. Is this the normal oil level after putting 5.15 qts? I will also check in the next 500 miles to see if it really is consuming oil. THanks for the feedback guys. -Johncy

Let it sit overnight, cold engine, level ground -- should be at full...

If not, top off, monitor carefully in accordance with oil consumption TSB.

Consuming oil early is probably typical -- if break in didn't go well, it is probably the underlying cause.

I thought reccommended oil amount makes it to the middle usually not at the full dot. I may be wrong.

I believe there is a H and a L mine uis in the middle of the 2 my car has gone 4500miles since last change , still looks clean and has been in the same spot since day 1. It is more of a weekend car , so I generally check it before I go out . Hope this helps ( also check the manual )

these engines eat/burn a lil oil so dont be toooooo concerned. id say if you do an oil change and check it 1500-2000 miles later and its below the L then be concerned.

also i let the car warm up, then turn it off for 5 min on level ground so the oil can settle, then measure.

Thanks for the insight man. I will check my oil more periodically.

Thanks for the info Fuct. I have a little less weight on my shoulders now. I will check the oil level in the next 500 miles to see what is going on and if there is even any oil being consumed. I may have just read the dipstick wrong when I first did my oil change. Who knows. But thanks again man.

Then... I'd say, order it. If the car is consuming oil to the point where the short block may need to be replaced under warranty, you definitely want to deal with this sooner than later

Just follow the TSB (it's on here somewhere) to ensure you are monitoring oil changes in keeping with their requirements and even if the engine is bad, you should be okay.

Will do! Thanks Jordo for the advice! How long is our warranty again for powertrain?

My 11 Nismo, 7000 miles, has the same issue, now its under the oil consumption test. The guy from dealer told me to go back at 11000 miles, and see how much it burns.
My car oil temperature will go up to 250' when i cruise 75 mil/h.
I think the engine will explosive due to overheat before 11000miles.

Wow my temps never go past 220 in my car. I will do the consumption test. I have to order the oil I used from Z1. Motul 8100 Eco-nergy 5w-30 and top it off. But the oil level is in the middle right now so it should be fine to drive right?

I'm at 8mm on the dipstick and 1250 miles since the change. So it is normal. PHEW!! I will check in the next 500 miles. Wow these engines really do burn oil.

Your post motivated me to go out and check mine. Mine does not have quite the miles your does yet, but checked anyway. I changed the oil first time with just over 1100 miles on it. The oil level after that change was touching the bottom of the high dot. Now, with just over 3900 miles on it, the oil level is still touching the bottom of the high dot. So in over 2500 miles the oil level has not changed. Hope it stays this way.

I think my car has burnt oil since day 1, when i did the oil change at ~1000 miles, the oil level was in the middle of the dip stick, and it keeps it that way, it always goes down to the middle after 1000-1500 miles.

it was always my impression even when my z was new that the middle between high and low is where our oil is supposed to be since even when new and checking the oil that is where my oil measurement has always been and never goes below that. i have never in the 28k miles i've owned my Z seen it all the way at the high mark and after reading this thread it just leaves me confused as to where the oil mark should be at.
