Default Please help: clutch fluid reservoir cap.

I went out to check on my engine oil level. Looked good.

Then I decided to check on the clutch fluid, so I opened the cap and was having hard time put it back. The question is: am I supposed to lock the latches on the cap to the grooves of the reservoir? I tried that by turning the cap clock-wise pretty hard but it didn't want to move into place. Also, do I have to worry about air getting into the system? Please advise.

Sorry if this is a noob question
Thanks.

My clutch fluid cap is just kind of sitting on there - it is not locked into any grooves. I am not sure if that is correct, but that is the way the car came.

If you take the cap off and put it back on, you won't get air in the system - air becomes a problem when it gets pulled down the lines, not when it is up on top of the fluid in the reservoir.

Thank you for the reply. I feel better

I find it weird that there are 2 latches on the cap and 2 little grooves on the reservoir though. Does yours have them?

Yes, I have tabs on cap and reservoir that seem like they ought to fit together somehow. I agree that it is an odd system, but I have not figured out how to make anything lock together. The o-ring down inside is what really provides the seal.

just dont drop it or fling it somewhere when you pry it off the reservoir then it suddenly breaks loose...
mine ended up beneath the reservoirs & getting it out was a mission even with my small hands. not to mention the fluid on the cap seal dribbling all over your un-clearcoated paint
