Clutch noise, is it normal?

Ive tried doing a search for this, but nothing that came up matched my car symptoms. At any rate, I just noticed my car has a whining/rattle noise. Which goes away when you press on the clutch and returns while in gear or with the clutch depressed in neutral. As you speed up, regardless of gear, the whining gets a bit louder/more noticeable, it becomes more high pitched. Is this normal for Zs? This is first Z i've ever owned, and would like to know if I should take it in to the dealer. My car is a 6 spd mt with sport package.

I don't drive this car often, it's pretty much my weekend fun car. But when I do drive it, the noise is absolutely annoying. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

the rattle is simply that, jsut clutch rattle. normal in not only z's but a lot of cars. not sure about the whine

If it wasn't happening with the clutch pressed in while in neutral I's say throwout bearing. That makes it sound like something inside the tranny. Changing the gear oil may help, I'd try that first since it's cheap and can't hurt anything.

BTW, I have a whine in my tranny, mainly 3rd and 4th gear when not under load (light to no gas). It's gotten a little bit better with time (15k now) but it's still there.

One more thing, after rereading your post. If the noise pitch changes with speed (mph) rather than with RPM it's probably your rear end. You can change the gear oil in it at the same time you do your tranny.

Just in the off chance it isn't the clutch.

Does it sound like a supercharger whine and varies with engine rpm? If so, it's relatively normal. Annoying, but normal.

Yes, it sounds just like that. It does vary with engine rpm, higher pitched at higher rpms. However, the noise goes away when I press in the clutch. What causes this? Do all 370zs have this noise?

I usually don't hear it since I blast the music. But when I do, it's super annoying.
