PLS Help! 4.08 FD Install?
Fellas,
I really need your help. I'm looking to have a Nissan dealership here install the 4.08 FD along with the install kit from Z1. Problem is after reading it does not come with shims. Nissan Master Tech says the shims always needs to be changed out when opening it up cause it has to be depressed or something like that. Those with the Final Drive did you re-use your stock shims? If not can you please post up the part number or website that I can get the shims. I have a 2K10 Sports Package btw. Please fellas need your help. If I go into this with no shims and I end up needing it my car will sit for a long time as shipping to Guam is Snail Mail especially if dealer orders it.

Your Nissan "Master Tech" should have told you there is no way of knowing what size "shims" you're going to need 'till he opens it up and installs the 4.08 final drive ring n pinion to get it within spec. There's more than just "shims" that have to be replaced as well. Pinion bearings, collapsible spacer, pinion height adjusting washer, etc...
I would recommend upgrading the stock POS viscous LSD as well while the rear diff is opened up. I don't know if I would trust a Nissan tech to do this job. I take mine to a local trans/rear diff shop that specializes in setting up gears. |

The tech is slightly wrong here. Most likely to set the gears up right he will have to change shims side to side and he will also need a new crush sleeve for the pinion. He should reuse the pinion shim after pressing the pinion bearing off. If he does not reuse to old pinion bearing then you will need new pinion shims and he will have to set the pinion depth, which I wouldn't trust most techs to do correctly. Best bet is to reuse the old pinion shim and bearing.

JC671,
Once you determine the actual Shim specs you need. I will be more than happy to PM/Post othe correct NISSAN part numbers that you need. In total there are 14 possible shim thicknesses available from Nissan. |

There's really no specialty shop for transmissions like they do in the states. They did tell me that they won't know what sizes they'd need till they open it up though. The problem is, Nissan here doesn't stock parts like most dealers do and average way time is about two weeks. So thats two weeks without a car. Quote:
