"Service engine soon" light
My "service engine soon" light came on today at 3900 miles. This happen to anyone else? I am thinking it is just a "time to get your oil changed" reminder that comes on at a given mileage. Anyone confirm this?

you have to reset it the way i reset it on my pathfinder is i push the trip reset in, hold it turn the key to the radio position release it turn the key off hold the trip reset again start the car its normally gone after that i normally have to fiddle with different combinations to make it happen but i get it to turn off i dont have a 370 yet i plan on buying a 2010 this spring just gotta sell two of my cars first i hope this helps |
The "Service Engine Soon" light is otherwise known as the Multifunction Indicator Light (MIL). Intuitive, huh? The correct answer is (from the Owner's Manual):
. Malfunction indicator light on steady — An emission control system malfunction has been detected. Check the fuel-filler cap. If the fuel-filler cap is loose or missing, tighten or install the cap and continue to drive the vehicle. The light should turn off after a few driving trips. If the light does not turn off after a few driving trips, have the vehicle inspected by a NISSAN dealer. You do not need to have your vehicle towed to the dealer. . Malfunction indicator light blinking — An engine misfire has been detected which may damage the emission control system. To reduce or avoid emission control system damage: a) Do not drive at speeds above 45 MPH (72 km/h). b) Avoid hard acceleration or deceleration. c) Avoid steep uphill grades. d) If possible, reduce the amount of cargo being hauled or towed. The malfunction indicator light may stop blinking and remain on. Have the vehicle inspected by a NISSAN dealer. You do not need to have your vehicle towed to the dealer. |
thats funny the MIL is normally a different light than the service "reminder " light

Well, Yesterday I reset the ECU to clear the CEL. Today it came on again. I might go to Checker auto parts tomorrow and see if they can plug the code reader in and see what is causing my CEL.

let me know if its p0456 :D

Service engine soon is a different light than the service reminder light.

Different names for the same thing. Nissan's "service engine soon" (SES), same as "check engine" light (CEL), same as "malfunction indicator lamp" (MIL).
So, SES = CEL = MIL. Any other names for the same thing I've left out. Depending on what is causing it and if its warrantied or not, it could also be named the "time to take it up the butt without the lube" light or TTTIUTBWTLL. Or we could just trim it down to the "F***-ME LIGHT" or "FML". Just throwing that out there... Late, Trav |

^^that is what the code reader said. I checked my gas cap. It is on as tight as it can be. What could be causing this? |
yup same as mine
i tested my gas cap and no matter how many times i close it tightly and click it several times it takes no force/effort to remove it most likely its the problem there is a TSB for it you might want to mention it to the dealer |
do u have any mods. mine was thrown because of the test pipes
|
mine came on at 100 miles right after the second time i got gas , apparently i didn't tighten the gas cap enuf and air got into the tank , car was running fine , i just had to go back to the dealer to get the light turned off

The gas cap is on very tight. I am going to take it to the dealership and see what they can find. |
