smoothing out the gear change by riding on clutch?

i know this sounds bad but does any one drives like me? it almost feels like the perfect shifting point is almost near at top for smooth shifting but it also makes me think that im just riding on a clutch.

No need to ride the clutch. Instead of completely taking your foot completely off the accelerator pedal, just release the pedal near the top to continue giving it a little bit of gas in between shifts.

Yea, it takes a bit of getting used to. Everyone has a different style.

Dumb question but can someone tell me what it means when you say riding the clutch?

DIGItonium 08-10-2012 03:50 PM

I'm assuming he is briefly not fully letting go of the clutch after shifting.

Well depending on engine revs you may have to use more clutch or not for a smooth shift. Nothing wrong with that, that is what a clutch does..

:iagree: I think people are over thinking this. Driving a manual transmission car 101.

Riding the clutch means accelerating while engaging/disengaging the clutch. It can cause increased wear (and sounds pretty embarrassing IMO) if done constantly.
