I recently purchased a b&m, didn't have to grind anything and the shifts are short and precise. I love the combo of it mated with my hebi bebi.

Did you guys w/ b&m shifters notice that its feels notchy? I had mine in for less than 100miles and took it out. It didn't feel as forgiving as stock shifter. I'm debating on putting it back in after I get the os giken clutch in to see if that makes a difference as it was with a JWT clutch before. Not sure of the clutches have anything to do with it or not. Just curious as to what you guys feel with your shifters. Also with a TT you don't need to shift fast, can't get any traction lol

I installed my TWM this weekend (finally). I had it sitting at the house for about 2 months. I like it, and it's really short, but the engagement effort is really high. It feels super mechanical. Is that normal, or could they have installed it wrong? It feels like I really have to force it into each gear with significant effort. It also has a slight rattle when the shifter vibrates a lot. If I push down on the knob (as if engaging the reverse lockout) it stops. Does anyone have anymore insight on this? This is the first manual car I have owned, so I don't have a ton of experience with how these should feel.

I would not recommend the TWM without a weighted shift knob. Those two together, however, are bliss. |
Just installed my B&M about a week ago. No grinding and reverse lockout is still in tact. When you do the install you will see the ring that has the elevated portion and the keystock that has to fit inside it to hit reverse.
The shifter feels amazing and the throws are incredibly short. Yes it feels "notchy" and mechanical, but it doesn't take long to get used to it. I prefer it now. Feels much more precise and you can feel the engagement MUCH better. For what it's worth, I have a TWM knob and the entire setup sits VERY low. |
Got used to it pretty quick, feels like a Miata shifter.

B&M rattles at high speed rpm's which is completely UNACCEPTABLE considering the price you pay for one.

Mine doesn't rattle at all...

That's good to hear. They rattle like crazy on the one for the s chassis and it's unbearably obnoxious and from what I read on motoiq's 370z it rattles.
|
The rattle is not the shifter directly but the shift knob and the shifter.
With less rubber on the shifter more vibration is carried through to the shift knob, and unless the shift knob is perfectly 100% on with no gaps it will rattle. I believe this is also one reason Nissan basically dipped the OEM shift knob in lock tight because it sealed the shift knob and shifter together to reduce any noise/rattle. |
I went twm with the nismo aluminum shift knob. its more than perfect!!! I highly recommend it! feels so solid no rattle.

Anymore updates? I'm debating between the B&M and the TWM shifters. I have a Grafixpression Napalm weighted shift knob (1.2lbs)
