Bigger Oil Filter Upgrade Help?
I searched and can't find if we can use Purolator L14610 in our Zs?
It is a bit longer then the regular filter for our Zs? Has anyone put a bigger oil filter in their car? Reason i ask is because my Honda Pilot uses the same filter and it would be a lot easier if i can use the same filter for both. |

I use the Purolator L14610 on both my Z and Frontier.

is it really better to use a bigger filter? I do 5k intervals using Penzoil Platinum, filtermag and magnetic drain bolt too. I'm guessing at longer OCI's a bigger filter would be better since it can hold more metal. The mobil1 filter has synthetic media to filter finer particles than paper media.

I used the 14610 on my Z last oil change and will be switching my Altima over to it next oil change for it. I ordered half a dozen of them from Amazon (free shipping with Amazon Prime) so I am stocked for while. These seem to be one of the filters of choice here, so if you can find them at a good price, go ahead and stock up.

I think bigger is better for a few reasons given the same size passages, same bypass valve rating, and same filter media. 1. Less pressure drop so less time bypassing 2. More oil volume 3. More filter media None of these are really that big of an issue for street driving with normal oil change intervals however. If you are looking for a filter to use on the track a lot and on the street that is where things get much more complicated. |
