Default Might have a big problem...

Yesterday I noticed the oil was low on my 09 Z. I'm at 52,000+ km, the warranty ran out at 48. This morning I'm going to go to Walmart or Canadian Tire to top it up.

To check for consumption, I'll be checking it every 1000km for the next 10K, which should take 2-3 months.

How much is too much? If its actually consuming? Had this car for over 2 years with no issues, hopefully it's just short from the recent oil change.

Now, worst come to worst, if it's really consuming oil, what are my options? Do I really have to replace the whole engine, or can it be solved with an internal rebuild?

Are you sure your powertrain is up? In the us powertrain is 5yr 60k I believe (something like that). I thought CA was like 100k.

If it is, consumption would fall under that. Take it in either way as it is a known issue and they might help you out.

Yesterday I checked it on a level surface, ran the car 5 min then decided to check oil. Shut it off, waited a minute & checked it. It was at the low point.

This morning, checked it cold before starting the car... It was at 3/4.

Then I drove 10-15 min to Walmart, went in, got oil, walked out & checked the level... It's at high point.

Still gonna go to the shop this afternoon.

Yea man your drivetrain warrenty is still active, 60,000 miles, Like what 85 kilo's( Never could figure that out) Take the car to the dealer, An dont tell you touched anything, Let them do it, When they confirm the low oil and consumption you get a NEW block.

Walmart for oil FTL :/

Just talked to a local dealer, the power train warranty is 5 years/100,000km. So for my next oil change, I just gotta go to them, and they will perform tests at every 1000km.

Yay

Yeah for sure! The awesome thing is that the dealership is across the street from my work, and I can just drop it off there in the mornings as I need to.

Still I have always wondered... What exactly causes oil consumption? Loose internals? Fault bores? Warped block?

If I do get it replaced, I wonder if they let me keep the old one...

You do understand you have to check it while the engine is cold? preferably in the morning. When it heats up, it thins out and films all the motor components. It takes a while for the oil to cool down and gravity kicks it back into the oil pan.

You don't have an oil consumption problem. No offence but you have a problem reading your oil level. Check your oil before starting it up in the morning as someone said. Oil doesn't expand that much when hot especially like a difference in dipstick levels as you observed.

Yeah I've realized that I didn't check it properly. The oil level is ok
