Default Engine oil low

Hey everybody, so I checked my engine oil tonight and it seems as if my engine oil is low since its below the L. I've been using mobil 1 synthetic and changing it every 4500 miles. I'm about to get th te oil changed tomorrow. But question is, does this necessary mean my engine is officially burning oil now? It's has 28,000 miles on it. Thanks. And I haven't noticed an leaks from underneath.

First, your probably down a quart or so which is acceptable oil consumption for 4500 miles. If you are concerned about this, you can do this. Top up your oil then go to your dealer and tell them you suspect that your engine may have an oil consumption problem. Have them change your oil seeing your due and take it from there.

yea below the L is a bit much. when i change mine i try and get about 3/4 up the dip stick level between L and F. (3/4 to the F)

after 4-5K miles ill notice its close to the L but never passed it.

hope this helps. :\

Thanks guys, I had the oil changed and the coolant filled to the max since it was at the minimum line. I'm just going to keep an eye on the oil level and see what happens. I'm thinking that the oil just burned because it was used for so long and ended up burning itself and its not the engine thats actually burning the oil..

The M1 0W30 / 5W30 does have a slightly greater tendency to burn in the VQ's for whatever reason. Just check on the level every 1000 miles or so and you should be fine, or next time try a different oil and see if the burning slows down.

Are the temperatures where you live very hot now ? Here in Denver it has been very hot in the past month. I noticed oil has burned in my VG30E engine: the oil in there now is 5w30... maybe to thin for this heat.

You can change to a heavier/thicker oil to see if it burns less . ? . And just check the dipstick periodically.
