Bought a used z , can you identify this?

I just bought a used 370z i test drive it and i was wowed , this thing is fast compared to my previous 09 370z. The sound is amazing, lots of low end power soi said to myself that this has some aftermarket performance mod. So i looked under the hood and under exhaust and look what i found. I know that it has stillen cold air but what gen? What kind of exhaust system is this ? Thx!

That exhaust looks interesting lol

Boost_lee 06-17-2012 11:37 PM

Pretty sure that's a Stillen exhaust...check the top of the tips.

XwChriswX 06-17-2012 11:42 PM

Stillen Gen III intakes...

Most likely Stillen Exhaust that's been painted.

Can't seems to find any brand ebosed on the tip but your right it looks very much as stillen exhaust.

owi1kenobi 06-17-2012 11:46 PM

If its a stillen exhaust and gen 3 cold air how much HP do i have now?

Strap it to a dyno and lets find out.

Nismo89 06-18-2012 12:09 AM

yea the intakes look like Stillen Gen 3 . i have the same intakes in my Car. looks identical....... stillen gen 3 claim 17.5 hp gains. not sure about the exhaust

280z/300zx 06-18-2012 12:54 AM

Stillen intake is good for about 15-18hp and the exhaust is about the same. However mods don't simply add up like that. So while intake may be good for 15hp and exhaust 15hp also it doesn't mean you gained 30hp. Most intake and exhaust set ups give a combined gain of about 20-25hp.

forza370z 06-18-2012 01:11 AM

20-25hp is noticable. But shouldn't give you WOW kind of feeling.

forza370z 06-18-2012 01:12 AM

I meant, if you feel lots of low end power, the car might have been tuned as well.

DarkJak 06-18-2012 01:43 AM

Yeah I'd bet it had a tune as well. It is running stock cats?

:iagree:

Zenki370 06-18-2012 05:43 AM

I kind of wish I painted my Stillen exhaust with the exception of the muffler back.

Ron 06-19-2012 09:55 PM

what's this?

jpritche 06-19-2012 09:59 PM

I was thinking the same thing Ron.

UNKNOWN_370 06-19-2012 10:21 PM

Stillen gen3 along with HFC headers, and exhaust should net 55rwhp in gains.

TypeOne 06-21-2012 09:01 AM

Looks like an alarm horn.

Great looking exhaust... :icon14:

wheee! 06-21-2012 09:15 AM

Might be a relocated windshield washer reservoir. The original owner might have had different intakes to start...

Can someone please identify my exhaust , it looks very similar to stillen but it doesnt have that name embosed on the tip. But then again it's missing that two joint going to the muffler and the tip is kinda short for a stillen. It's painted black when i got this so im really kinda confused , it has that deep throaty with raspy sound.

If its not a stillen then what might that be?

Strangler 07-01-2012 08:24 PM

Need more pics of your exhaust to help identify it.

owi1kenobi 07-01-2012 08:55 PM

Heres some more but ill take a better pic tomorrow.

KaienZ34 07-01-2012 09:07 PM

Nope not the stillen exhaust but same style.

HKYStormFront 07-01-2012 09:09 PM

:shrugs: looks custom to me

bigsix 07-01-2012 09:12 PM

That's nice that you got a modified car w/out knowing it at first . . . How does it sound ?

owi1kenobi 07-01-2012 09:26 PM

Thats the problem when buying a used car , i do like the sound of the exhaust note and also the third gen stillen intake. It's true that all of this mod wouldnt make you say wow about how fast this car is but trust me it's fast so much faster than my last 09 370z . I'm now wondering if this car has a moded chip /ecu .

LMBmikeZ 07-01-2012 11:48 PM

Most likely just the typical bolt-ons (Hi-flo cats, CBE and CAI) with a good tune. It would be noticeable if you had them side by side to compare.

fusionchicken 07-02-2012 04:57 AM

the only way to really see how much quicker this car is vs a stock car is to run them side by side or take it to a track and see what the trap speed is

most of the time the increased noises in the car (intake and exhaust) will give the perception of a much faster car.

owi1kenobi 07-02-2012 06:47 PM

So i possibly have a custom exhaust . Close inspection revealed a custom headers but because its too tight i cant seems to find any catalytic converter wich makes me think it has a test pipe installed to a y pipe going a big diameter single pipe and seperate again with 2 resonator and 2 muffler. Do you think thats one reason my z seems faster than a stock z?

SailFree 07-02-2012 07:05 PM

"Do you think thats one reason my z seems faster than a stock z?"

"SEEMS" is the operative word here. Why not actually TEST the dang thing and then you would have some hard data?

KaienZ34 07-02-2012 07:21 PM

I felt bad for the guy not knowing what he had, but we all tried to help. He doesn't seem to care or listen, now i just think he is a troll. Because he still thinks that his exhaust (or any for that matter) and intake combo makes the car SO much faster than stock. I'm sure it sounds better and feels better but we've seen so many before and after dyno's since early 09 to know that they don't make that much difference power wise, so sorry.

Looks like Berk..

kenchan 07-03-2012 09:07 AM

there should be a thread on how to wash the undercarriage.

MacLean 07-03-2012 08:37 PM

One would think that one would ask the previous owner beforehand what kind of exhaust, air intake & etc was put on the car. This is assuming that you can actually tell that items are aftermarket.
