If you plan on keeping the car for a while; I'd spend the few extra bucks on a good synthetic like Pennzoil Platinum.

What do you plan running for OCI because w/ Redline you could take it out to 10,000 miles OCI. Personally I'd just go with a good synthetic locally available in a big jug (Pennzoil Platinum) and change it out every 5-6k miles.

Thanks, but I think i want to pick from RL or M1... if M1 has even a 0.1% chance > than RL to damage the engine / or not get along then I dont mind the extra $ 2 times a year for RL.

If so why is Mobil 1 OEM fill on the Nissan GTR....?

mattleegee 06-22-2012 04:11 PM

ive always used M1 UNTIL they changed their formula a few years ago, now just Castrol full synthetic

jayl 06-23-2012 11:24 AM

I think they use 0w-40. which I think is a better than the 5w.30.

Mobile-1 0w-40 is a true synthetic. Mobile-1 5w-30 is not.

what ive been told on here is that the ester based oils (redline) will break down faster than full syth dino oil. so yes the redline might be better but only while its brand new.

i was changing my redline at 4/5k miles and the oil looked HORRIBLE!!!! i was told thats too long of an interval for ester based oils.

i now change my mobil-1 full snth every 4k miles and im all gravy.

I've been using Mobil 1 0W40 ever since I got the car. Although I have no direct comparison with between oil changes, but theres also no problems with using 0W40.

The car did felt smoother when changing from the original oil that came from the factory to the first mobil 1 oil change, but that's probably because of completing run in? :)

Is that true about 0W-40 vs 5w-30?

Damn, how come my Walmart won't stock 0w-40?

edub370 07-03-2012 03:29 PM

Buy mobile 1 10w 30. Its fine

i switched to 0W40 this past weekend. the car comes up to normal operating temps MUCH faster than before, and im noticing a slightly lower temp overall. i do hear more engine noise though.

so far so good.
