Here's a dumb oil cooling question

... I've heard mumblings that the higher capacity oil filter helps with oil temp. Is it possible to cool the oil filter without re-routing the oil into a radiator? I think a finned oil filter wouldn't provide much cooling but would something like a water jacket around an oil filter work then take the heated water to a radiator or would there not be enough heat transfer? Since its not re-routing the oil it wouldn't affect the warranty...

not nearly enough surface area to make a difference....

Oil heat exchanger from Draile.com is a alternative to the fined oil coolers. Although the oil heat exchanger does not bolt in place of a oil filter and only offers minimal heat cooling. I do not know how well a oil heat exchanger would lower oil temps on a 370Z.

I don't think the amount of cooling you would get would justify the time and money spent.

I've got these low profile vents...Thinking of mounting one on the bottom engine cover right under the sump..

The real solution is an oil cooler though...Hit the link in my Sig for the DIY

Are those Trailer Side Vents for Motorcycle trailers?

I have no idea...Got em from a trailer place 8 years ago. Can't seem to find them now on RV sites..

Look up either Continental Cargo or PACE. I have worked on many trailers over the years for various friends and family. Are you going to open up the inlet on those vents? They look restrictive as they are now.

It was a Pace dealer that I got them at actually. We'll see how it works. Can't hurt!
