CEL P2A00 advice

Damn CEL came on today. Had the code read and it was P2A00 (Bank 1 Primary O2 sensor). Haven't had a chance to crawl under the car yet to check for anything but plan on doing that tomorrow. Hopefully it's just a loose cable or worn wire. Car seemed to run fine even with the CEL on.

What I really need to know is, is it safe to push the car hard. I have a Solo event on Sun. but don't want to risk doing damage to the car. I thought I remember hearing in the past that when an O2 sensor acts up the ECU defaults back to open loop control meaning the ECU isn't compensating fuel trims based on O2 sensor feedback. If I was bone stock I wouldn't be too worried but since I'm running LTH and a CBE Im afraid I might end up running overly lean.

Not positive but I would assume it would be ok to run the car reguardless of the mods. Do you have a tuner you can call? I don't like the fact that this another O2 issue from someone having LTH

No tuner available today and I'm not sure that would help since I'm currently just stock on the ECU side (NO Uprev). Getting ready to climb under the car now so hopefully this is just a bad connector/bad wire.

So I climbed under the car and found a whole lot of nothing. The only thing I saw that I wasn't a big fan of was the that the passenger side Primary o2 sensor cable was laying against a bracket. Moved the cable and attached to another cable just to keep it out of the way but I don't think this was the issue. Cleared the code and went for a drive. No CEL in sight after 2 hrs of driving. All I can think of is that it was raining when I got the CEL so maybe when the wiring for the O2 sensor was lengthened for the LTH's it wasn't made as water tight as it needed to be.

Your O2 sensor may be perfectly fine because there are other symptoms which can trigger an O2 code - running too rich or lean for example. Hopefully it was triggered as you indicated and all is fine.

A few of us have been dealing with this code on and off. If you do a search you will see some information out there.

I still have it, but I am willing to bet it is a problem with a gasket from the header to the test pipes and it is leaking. I am just too lazy to take the test pipes out and replace the gasket. I also have started getting PO037 which is the secondary sensor not getting hot enough. Could be the need for a new 02 sensor (although at 12.5k on the car I doubt that), or it could be an issue with the fouler j bend junk on my test pipes, OR it could be a leaking gasket on the testpipe/header.

On of these days I will get under the damn car and replace that gasket. Doesn't seem to effect driving performance at all, so I am not really concerned. I've considered just ordering the osirus cable and disabling those two codes as I can't stand a SES light, period.

And to add, according to my logger the car remains in closed loop

Oh, and I would just like to point out this is how all of the threads on this code seem to end.

No information or ideas how to fix ;)

My car started showing the same code a little while ago. Got underneath the car today and nothing was loose or worn. I was thinking about buying a new O2 sensor to see if it fixes the problem. I have HFCs on my car.
