forged motor and vvel controller replace
i am being told that because i am having the motor rebuilt
i need new vvel controllers from nissan there 700 a pop and i need 2 of them what i want to know is can the ones i have be reused nissan is telling my shop that the vvel must come from them set if the old ones were removed from the heads and doing any kind of adjustments on them could cause the motor to fail i.e valve to piston contact i am now hitting 8k and 2.5 months tring to get this dam car back on the road (pissed right now!!!)

Seems like this is in the wrong forum section.

in the fsm it does list them as non reusable although having had them in my hands i can't figure out why the hell not so long as you line them up right when you put them on. there is a little plastic piece in a new one that holds the actuator in place for bolting it to the vvel control shaft. I would imagine that it is for setting the center postion of the actuator on initial startup so that the feedback position sensor can be set to the proper position for each head. There is a procedure outlined in the FSM that your shop should look at to figure out if it can be done with the old actuators.

Nissan also claims that the 7 speed automatic is a sealed unit and not serviceable either. My point is that just because Nissan says that does not mean that it cannot be done.
You have two options: 1) replace them per the factory recommendations 2) find someone more qualified to build your engine FYI, to this day, and after building many VVEL engines, we have never had to replace any VVEL components. Best of luck. |

yeah agreed they list a ton of stuff as non reusable non serviceable that really isn't probablly just to sell more parts but i don't have quite the experience you do with it sam so i didn't want to say for sure. It's good to know they are reusable for sure.

and the 350z service manual says to never unbolt the two halves of the brembo brakes, but I do that all the time too when refinishing them.

I liked the look for the new z and wanted to try something different . I was very close to getting new challenger and adding a twin screw to it or the 2011 mustang gt that new gt motor is a monster. I don't see a lot of 370z around here so that's a good thing

I would tend to believe Nissan will call a part non-reusable simply because they do not trust their technicians to use adequate judgement in its reuse. They probably have some method for determining when the risk vs reward ratio is too far on the risk side to bother letting their techs try their hand at it just to screw it up.
