I used to be one of these "All sports cars must have manuals" guys, but then I matured and learned of situations where it's simply less practical or altogether impractical. If I drove in 40 mins of stop and go traffic every day, I could see being tired of a manual. And some folks have leg or spinal injuries that make it impossible to drive auto. And some people just plain prefer automatics. I'm not gonna hate. As long as there are manuals available for those who want them

Shift kits for making very fast shifts in an auto have been around since the muscle car era. Now it's just standard production on sports cars with autos. So some guys like fast shifting autos and some like myself like to have more control and prefer the manual. I don't see why anyone should hate on either side - it's just personal preference.

I just bought a certified 370z 6MT touring in black few weeks ago.
I know how to drive manual but never drove manual as a daily driver. Stalled it about 2x going on the test drive, stalled it about 2x heading home after leaving the dealership. Just nerves really, getting to excited trying not to stall it will make you stall it. It's just the clutch engagement is at near the top. I believe the manual is smooth after you are going from 2nd gear and on. The car is very light and has gobs of torque most hills I take them at 3rd or 4th gear depending on my momentium. When Iam in traffic I will let the clutch out until I feel it's first bit, let go of the brake, no gas, and just let the car creep with just the clutch when I need to inch up. After the bit and move its a small delay for the energy to transfer from the engine through the clutch into the tranny and then into the drivetrain to the wheels. Also with the first gear being the biggest gear to turn. I do have to admit when I first got the car, I was scared to drive it cause I didnt want to roll into anyone. You just drive it more and more and you will become confident in your MT driving skills. I love it now, I will love it even more when I get that clutch helper spring installed to make me feel the engagement better. |

When I'm shifting to or from 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear, my finger tips are a mere two inches from the stereo controls. It's perfect. I don't need to look at the stereo to make suddle changes to audio. Other times I do use the steering wheel controls, but I find the volume button to be out of place for my left thumb. |

i would not buy the 370z with the 6mt. the engagement is really weird.

Radio? Our cars have radios? (Mine's long gone).
Related to the hand-position stuff though, I do wish someone would release a simple wiring harness to switch the Up/Down direction on the 7AT's shifter, it's backwards from how it should be. Someone linked an upcoming Mine's product, but no release yet AFAIK and probably $500 for a short piece of wire knowing Mine's. Also some simple mechanical lockout to help keep it over in the M-mode slot (it's really easy to accidentally push the stick back over to neutral when pushing in the forward direction). |

But I think logically the way it is now feels more correct for most people... When I get into my BMW I want to kill someone... It feels assbackwards every time |

That's what I mean, it should be laid out the way a sequential is. There's sound logic behind it. When you're braking and downshifting, your body/arm is being pushed forward naturally, and when you're accelerating and upshifting, the opposite. So having foward be downshift and back be upshift keeps the shifter movement in sync with the natural forces on your body.

A lot of you mention that the clutch engagement for the Z is high. Can you please reference which cars you are comparing it too?
Before making my decision to purchase the 2013 Z, I test drove a Mustang GT, Corvette LT3, Mazdaspeed 3, BMW M3 and Subaru BRZ all 2012 models with manuals. They all engaged fairly high to me, the 370Z was not out of the norm in this regards. The only exception to me was the Mazdaspeed 3, which to me engaged the highest. |

I know
I think for daily driving for normal people the way its set up feels more correct... BUT if the gear shifter was like it is on a real sequential with the big all shifter, then fuuck yeah I want it reversed, lol
