Just the other day, I was driving the G37 and using the shifter to up and downshift instead of the paddles, and when I reached over, I bumped it out of manual into D, and "upshifted" into neutral, which caused me to rev up pretty high. Except I instinctively put it back into drive too soon, before the revs died back down completely (was probably around 3.5k). The car jerked as it went back into gear and I got extremely worried. But nothing bad has happened from it. And I think if you let the engine revs die down first, it wouldn't be bad to the car at all.

I've been doing that for the past 9 years (~100,000 miles) on my 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe. It has a stick shift mode and sometimes I think it is there, but is not . I go from drive (thinking that I am upshifting) to neutral and then back again without any incidents.

If a POS Hyindai can handle it, I'm sure the Z can as well. Just don't do a 7,500 RPM neutral slam and all will be right with the world.

My friend discovered you can do neutral dumps a few years ago in his suburban. hit 4.5K and went from N to D. Blew the diff. Good story.
