Shell Rotella T6 5W-40
Who's using it? I'm not installing an oil cooler and @ 25K miles am thinking of switching over to it. I live in Nor-Cal (it gets hot) and have been thinking maybe using it for summer time only and switching to Platinum or EDGE for winter.

Its a really good synthetic oil, easy to find and super cheap like $21 a gallon. I just need some reassurance its not going to f'up VVEL.
"I doubt that cold start pressure with 5W40 on a hot day would be higher than with 5W30 on a cold day" Also my engine oil temp is 220f cruising on the highway i think the 5w-40 will be thinned out sufficiently. I'm wondering what end of the spectrum T6 is on whether it's a heavy, mid or a light 40 wieght. Last edited by harman.khinda; 05-09-2012 at 12:08 AM. |

I run it in my bike with no issues (10w40 recommended). However, I do wonder if it might be a bit on the thick side when at operating temps in the car. If you live in real hot climates (az, nm, etc) then it might not be a bad idea.
Anyone done a UOA on a 5w30 oil in these climates and then compare to a 10w40 or 5w40? |
