ANOTHER oil thread

Found a killer deal locally on some valvoline synthetic, and wondering if anyone has used this stuff or what peoples opinion on thus stuff is. For reference I'm coming from using mobile 1 which I love

There's a VVEL noise that has been reported on few cars on idling, noticed this in my car with Valvoline or Castrol synthetic. Doesn't happen with Mobil 1.

It won't hurt your engine so go for it if the price appeals to you.

edub370 05-03-2012 03:36 PM

man valvetrain noise drives me nuts... that kinda is steering me away from it

Ni55anPat 05-03-2012 03:44 PM

mobil 1 0-40 .....BAM

edub370 05-03-2012 04:00 PM

HAHA i run mobile 1 religiously. TBH i have noticed a little more valvetrain noise lately in general... may just be cuz its time for an oil change tho

fuct 05-03-2012 04:12 PM

i switched from redline to mobil 1 after 24 k miles. i hear virtually no difference in the way the engine sounds..... maybe im getting old :|

i think most synthetics are very decent now-a-days. i dont think form castrol, to quakerstate, to valvoline, to mobile1, etc... etc... that much of a difference will be noticed.

Exactly! So go buy the Valvoline that's on sale. If you have noticable valve train noise then changing your oil to a different brand won't cure it. Go to the dealer or other and have the noise diagnosed if you are that concerned.

i'm not too concerned about the noise. i expect a fair amount of valvetrain noise in any car. hell u should here my volvo. after 161,000 miles at 18psi its a hell of a lot louder lol

idk why, but this z has me paranoid about my motor oil choices here lately

XBarbarian 05-04-2012 07:42 AM

well.. I did my first break in oil change at 2k miles.. dealer used the "ester" stuff.. and I let 'em.. cause they gave me a first oil change free deal...

so.. now going forward.. not sure if there is truth to the ester stuff... should I stay with it?or I should go to my normal Mobil 1 that Ive used in my SLK350 and now the C300...

I use Mobil 1 as do many others in here. Just stick with what works for you.

The new penzoil ultra is also highly rated (also a synthetic).

I used Mobil 1 extended performance and changed my oil twice already. There's no noise and issues.
