Default steering reservoir

Sorry guys,
I am going to drive you nuts with questions that may seem silly, but I am a noobie to this car.
1. The liquid in my steering reservoir when cold is halfway between the cold max and minimum line. Should I top it up or is this preferable?
2. I am not used to such a low steering rotation (1.5 turns)and I end up always turning to lock. Does this cause damage? Should it be avoided? My last car (audi S3) had electric steering and my first car was an alfa 164 that blew the steering line when I turned to full lock.
3. How the h*ll do you get the cap off the reservoir. It doesn't have threads so I just pulled it off and then snapped it on. Is this o.k.? Why no threads?

Thanks

yah, try to avoid lock to lock as it does force the steering to work harder.

check the level when hot to see if it's in the correct level. you can add if you want.

i think it was a pushdown and turn ccw. i haven't had to add fluid in mine.

When hot it is also halfway between max and min. I think I had read somewhere that when running the card hard the reservoir shouldn't be at max. Maybe I am wrong.

Half way is fine... I fill all my fluids about half way just to make sure I don't over/underfill.

and its not power steering fluid that you put in it, but ATF. I use Dextron VI from valvoline.

If you street drive fill it half way, if you track fill the PS only to the cold min mark otherwise it can overflow.
