Default UK owner - High Rpm Rattle

Hi all

UK owner here whos been reading this forum for a while and finally got round to registering.

I've owned my 370Z since July last year and love it to bits.

I've noticed a rattle noise though and wondered if anyone on here has had similar. I HAVE been using the search tool but most of the rattling threads seem to be concentrating on rattles at low revs or when vehicle is still. (that rattle I've no problem with as my last car (S2000) did that also so consider normal).

I was on a spirited drive in north Wales on Friday and whilst accelerating hard in 3rd gear, when I got to the higher end of the revs I heard a slight rattling similar to the kind of clutch rattle that you get sometimes when vehicle is stationary without clutch being depressed.

The car was performing brilliantly, is a completely standard (non modified) manual 370Z GT, car is not abused and mileage is about 7000. It took about 1.5 hours to drive to the location of our spirited drive but it's not linked to oil temps or anything as UK temp at moment is approx 10C and oil never went above about 103C.

Im sure it's nothing but thought I would see if anyone else has heard similar?

I took the car out yesterday to try and replicate the sound again but it didnt seem to and again ran like a dream - this time without the said high rpm rattle.

Anyone else know of similar rattle at that kind of rpm/gearing?

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Adam

Hi, cheers for coming back to me.

The rattle noise sounds like the rattle of the clutch or flywheel that is quite often heard when the cars are stood still. I think it would be related to something like that as opposed to something to do with engine oil.

Just wondered if anyone had experienced similar when in the high rev range?

Thanks

Am not an expert but ive been reading similar noises comming from the shaft, basicaly your half-shaft needs to be lubricated w/ a special nissan lube once in a wile, it usually happends at around 23k miles thats like 30k kilos or somthing, umm i sugest that you take it in to the dealer and see wut they say.

I'd be checking the exhaust system hanger's if the rattle occurs under hard cornering, or max acceleration (engine mounts allow the engine to move an awful lot under hard acceleration or abrupt full throttle to zero throttle expereicend when pushing the envelope), and as such, the exhaust will move about quite a bit ....

If nothing has fallen off, I'd be pressing on until something does, then you will know where it came from !!

Spoke to Nissan, if I hear again I'll take it in, but actually my gut feeling is that is was nothing to worry about.

Will keep you posted

Thought I'd update. Found that my friend had put something in the glove box. THAT was what was rattling.

Item removed, everything sounding as it should. Friend now to be punched.

Thanks all that tried helping out
